Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Benson Whyte (ranked 1166 p4p, 181 weight class) and Jesus Malverde (ranked 702 p4p, 117 weight class). Whyte comes to the cage accompanied by Bob Marley - Jammin. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Whyte cracks Malverde with a right hand to the side of the head.
Whyte misses with a body punch
and Malverde finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Malverde looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Whyte throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Whyte moves out of range of the strikes.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Whyte clobbers Malverde with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Malverde seems to have recovered his senses.

That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Whyte crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Malverde - the referee stops the clock and Whyte gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Malverde. Whyte manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Whyte lands a big uppercut and Malverde crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Malverde looks OK. Whyte waves Malverde back to his feet!

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Malverde.

I was talking to Whyte's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Whyte pushes Malverde back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

Whyte utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.

Whyte throws a jab but it's blocked by Malverde.
Malverde with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Whyte to score with a decent uppercut.

Whyte chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Malverde can pounce on him.
Malverde does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Malverde throws a hook to the side of Whyte's head but Whyte sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Benson Whyte is winning the standup battle so far.
Whyte feints and then cracks Malverde's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Malverde down.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Whyte rattles Malverde with a well-timed uppercut counter. - Malverde tries to back away and recover but his hands are down low and he gets tagged again, sending him stumbling down to the canvas. Whyte dives in after him and quickly finishes the job with a trio of brutal punches, leaving Malverde stiff and motionless on the mat!
