Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jake Smith ! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Saketh Reddy! The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Wesley Smith and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Smith looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Reddy! Reddy tries to improve position but can't. Smith is trying to get an arm triangle but Reddy is defending well. Reddy defending against the ground and pound. Reddy is trying to get back to half guard. Smith misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Smith trying to control the action but Reddy is working from the bottom. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Smith working away. Smith scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Reddy to see if he's OK. Reddy tries to buck Smith off but Smith is having none of it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Smith lands an elbow. Smith in side control, throwing shots but Reddy defends. Reddy tries to bench press Smith off him but Smith keeps the position. Smith wants to control but Reddy is keeping him busy. Reddy is trying to control Smith 's posture but Smith avoids it. Reddy sneaks back into half guard. Reddy keeping control of the position. Smith is nestled in close to Reddy, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Smith is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Reddy tries to roll over but Smith keeps him under control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Smith is keen to just control but Reddy is a slippery customer. Reddy is trying to get back to full guard. Smith performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Reddy holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Reddy wants to control but Smith is keeping busy and won't allow it. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Smith not doing much here.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Smith throws a hook but Reddy avoids it easily. Reddy gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Smith preventing the sweep. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Smith accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Smith with a flurry of punches that miss. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Reddy holds on and takes a little breather. Reddy looking for a sweep. Not yet Reddy, not yet. Smith trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Reddy trying to keep a closed guard but Smith is proving a slippery customer.
Reddy looks winded! Smith throws a big right hand that misses.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Smith landing with the ground and pound. Smith throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Smith wants to control from the top but Reddy keeps moving. Smith is looking to work some ground and pound but Reddy has wrist control.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Smith defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Reddy. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Reddy fails with a takedown attempt. Smith stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Smith wants it to stay on the feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Smith shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Smith was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Smith misses with an attempted head punch from side control. Reddy tries to buck Smith off but Smith is having none of it. Reddy is being controlled here. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Reddy can do anything to dispel that myth. You can see the frustration on Reddy's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Reddy is trying to improve his position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Smith misses with the ground and pound. Smith is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Reddy can do to turn this around? Reddy wants to control but Smith postures up.

Smith cracks Reddy with a big right hand but Reddy just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Reddy defending against the ground and pound. Smith cracks Reddy with a big elbow. Smith scores with a couple of short elbows. Smith wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Reddy, who protects the arm well. Smith working the ground and pound from side control. Smith working away.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Smith lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Smith throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Reddy struggling a bit here. Reddy is trying to get back to half guard. Smith working the head and body with strikes. Smith postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Smith just content to control the position. Smith working the ground and pound. Smith is putting a hurting on Reddy here, landing some big shots from side control. Reddy being controlled for a moment.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Smith seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Reddy for as long as he can get away with. Smith trying to control the position but Reddy is working away. Smith connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Reddy some visible discomfort.

Reddy tries for a takedown but Smith circles away easily and Smith counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Reddy! Reddy is looking for a sweep. Smith working the head with strikes. Smith working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Smith tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Reddy regains half guard. Reddy takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Smith landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Smith takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
That's one minute gone in the round. Reddy is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment. Smith working Reddy over with strikes. Smith is looking to advance position but Reddy won't allow it. Reddy is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Smith is trying to control. Reddy wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Smith with the ground and pound but Reddy uses the opportunity to regain guard. Reddy can't keep his opponent in guard - Smith advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Smith wants to pass to mount but Reddy is defending the position. Smith content to control rather than advance.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Reddy is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Smith scores with a couple of nice shots. Saketh Reddy has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Smith lands a nice short elbow. Smith is looking to take a break and control but Reddy is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Reddy gets back to full guard.
Smith with a flurry of punches that miss. Reddy looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Smith wants to control from the top but Reddy keeps moving. Jake Smith is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Reddy throws a sloppy head kick and Smith moves out of range easily. Smith changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit. Smith jabs Reddy right on the nose. Reddy blinks but takes it well. Smith decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Smith is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Smith seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Reddy looking for submissions off his back. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Smith is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
