Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Christoper Waters! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Soitoi Wanalaiiea! The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Jeff Smith and Roger Salmon.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Waters takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket. Wanalaiiea pivots, looking for a leg kick but Waters is out of range and Wanalaiiea settles back down. Waters was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger. Wanalaiiea has Waters up against the cage in a clinch.
Wanalaiiea pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Waters could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Wanalaiiea swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Waters takes one on the button. Waters feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Wanalaiieas jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist! Wanalaiiea throws a one two combo.
It looks like Christoper Waters has been cut. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Wanalaiiea fails with an attempt to clinch.
Waters is looking to counter the offense by Wanalaiiea and move into the clinch. Wanalaiiea tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Waters feinted with a counter takedown. Wanalaiiea tries to bum rush Waters with a series of wild strikes but Waters uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wanalaiiea showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Waters.
Wanalaiiea clinches up with Waters and pushes him back against the cage. Wanalaiiea manages to break the clinch.
Wanalaiiea throws a right and a left that Waters avoids nicely. Waters uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Wanalaiiea.
Waters drops down looking for a counter takedown but Wanalaiiea sprawls and moves away. Wanalaiiea instigates a clinch. Wanalaiiea's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Waters shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wanalaiiea dives in for a single leg takedown but Waters sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Wanalaiiea throws a series of punches but Waters avoids them all with ease. Waters throws a wild hook but Wanalaiiea just manages to duck under it and - ooooh! Waters gets nailed by a brutal uppercut which crumples him back against the cage! The referee jumps in - Wanalaiiea raises his hands in celebration and walks away!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Soitoi Wanalaiiea!
