Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Przemyslaw Wierzbowski! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Barry Jones! The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Jorge Garcia and Chad Campbell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wierzbowski shoots in for a takedown but Jones shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Wierzbowski slips a jab from Jones. Jones throws a hook to the side of Wierzbowski's head but Wierzbowski sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Barry Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Jones throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Wierzbowski half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. Wierzbowski misses with a takedown attempt and Jones counters with a straight right hand. Wierzbowski slips a jab from Jones. A big left from Jones misses. Jones jabs Wierzbowski to the body, keeping him at a distance. Wierzbowski ducks under a wild hook from Jones. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Jones fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Wierzbowski manages to avoid it. Jones misses with a body shot.
Wierzbowski fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Jones to the ground. Wierzbowski is now in Jones's guard. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jones can do anything to dispel that myth. Wierzbowski slips nicely into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Wierzbowski wants to control but Jones is keeping him busy. Wierzbowski missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Jones is trying to control but can't.
Still in half guard, Wierzbowski seems content to control. Wierzbowski is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Jones is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Przemyslaw Wierzbowski! Our winner, Przemyslaw Wierzbowski, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans. In defeat, Barry Jones stepped up to the mic, saying 'I mean what can I say, salute to Doc... He was the better fighter tonight. Our paths will cross again though trust that.'.
