Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Azar Qasi (ranked 1379 p4p, 218 weight class) and Erik Hiller (ranked 5782 p4p, 688 weight class). Qasi comes to the cage accompanied by For Whom The Bell Tolls. The crowd seem to be enjoying Hiller's choice of entrance music: Rush and Run - Shake and Jump. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
21 - 11 - 1, fighting out of New York, Azar Qasi! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Erik Hiller! The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Felipe Paraventi and Leandro Rodrigues.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hiller moves out of range of the strikes. Qasi misses with a body shot.
Qasi jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Hiller lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Hiller drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hiller decides to stand back up. Qasi misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Hiller.
Qasi connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Hiller checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time. We've been hearing reports that Qasi has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight. Hiller tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Hiller misses with a wild body shot. Qasi lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick. Erik Hiller seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. This has been an exciting period of action! Hiller tries for a takedown but Qasi circles away easily and Qasi counters with a stiff right hand. Hiller moves away from the strike by Qasi. Hiller is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here. Hiller keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Hiller throws a sloppy head kick and Qasi moves out of range easily. Qasi scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
That's one minute gone in the round. Qasi throws a jab when Hiller was well out of range. Hiller avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Hiller misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. A counter left hand to the body from Qasi misses its target. Qasi swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Hiller checks a leg kick. Qasi misses with a body shot.
Qasi sets himself, and Hiller steps forward looking for the clinch! Qasi avoids it this time. Hiller rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Qasi moves out of range and avoids them all easily. A shot to the liver by Qasi. Beautiful body shot. Hiller shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Qasi manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Hiller looking to pass the guard. Qasi trying to keep a closed guard but Hiller is proving a slippery customer.
Hiller wants to control from the top but Qasi keeps moving.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hiller stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Qasi swivels though and keeps the full guard. Qasi is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Hiller misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Hiller tries to get to full guard but Qasi has control of the leg. Qasi is working for a submission of some sort.
Qasi tries to pass the half guard into mount. Hiller knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Qasi is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Hiller sees it coming and defends easily. Hiller wants to improve his position but Qasi is controlling well.
Qasi wants to pass the guard but Hiller is defending well. Qasi controlling the pace.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Hiller is trying to maintain the position but Qasi is very close to passing his half guard. Qasi is looking for a kimura here.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Azar Qasi dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Hiller gets a takedown into half guard. Hiller is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Qasi sees it coming and defends easily. Hiller is working for a submission of some sort.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hiller trying to mount his opponent but Qasi defends it. Qasi tries to roll over but Hiller keeps him under control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Qasi moves into full guard.
Qasi is looking to cinch up a triangle. Hiller throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Qasi's body to avoid the submission. Qasi has instead reached around Hiller's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Qasi arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
