PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Berry Morse (ranked 24686 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brian Time (ranked 6589 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Berry Morse!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Brian Time!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, John Mangel and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Time shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Morse defends it nicely.
Morse appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Morse stuffs the takedown.
Morse looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Time is fending him off so far but Morse persists. Nope, Time circles away and we're back to standing.
Morse tries a head kick but it misses.
Time shoots in but no luck this time.
Morse wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Berry Morse has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brian Time.
Time fails to land the takedown.
Morse appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Time gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Morse is trying to pull guard but Time turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Morse manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Time avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Time postures up in Morse's guard and throws a big left but Morse blocks it.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Morse pulls Time in close to his closed guard and prevents Time from doing any damage or advancing position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Time pushes down on Morse's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Time not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Morse is not content to let Time control the position.

Morse has hold of Time's hands but Time slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Time takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Morse is controlling Time's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Time looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Morse preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Morse is refusing to be controlled, as Time sits in half guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Time should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Morse misses with a jab, cross combination.

Morse closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Morse works on Time's body with a couple of short punches.
Morse prevents the takedown attempt.
Morse is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Time to keep the fight standing.
Morse tries to pull guard but Time forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Time jumps guard but Morse stands there with Time around his waist. Time gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Morse gets control of Time's arms and successfully pulls guard. Morse will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Time is looking to advance position but Morse has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Time has taken the fight to the clinch.

Time's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Time dives in and grabs Morse's left leg, looking for a takedown. Morse pushes down on Time's head and hops out.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Time has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Morse off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Morse connects with a good right hand that stumbles Time. Time circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Brian Time seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Time forces Morse back against the cage and clinches.

Morse drags the fight down to the ground.
Time pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Morse is keeping the position for now.
Morse will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Morse seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Time works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Morse is not content to let Time control the position.
Morse throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

Time wants to control but Morse is keeping him busy.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

and Morse counters with a single leg into guard. Time didn't expect that.
Time is breathing heavily.
Morse works over Time with some ground and pound from guard.
Time working a defensive guard but Morse passes into half guard.
Morse performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Time flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Well, if Morse is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Morse looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Time with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

That was a close second round but I would say that Berry Morse will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Time is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Morse defends well.
Time utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Time wants to stand and escape but Morse is having none of it.
Morse is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Time controls Morse momentarily but Morse frees himself.
Time takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Morse stands up over Time, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
