Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
24 - 7 - 1, fighting out of New York, Nick Fjera! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
48 - 25 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gunnar Steigelmann! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Steigelmann staying out of range there. Steigelmann has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Steigelmann misses the shot to the body. A little feinted left hand from Fjera on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Steigelmann connects with a leg kick. Fjera looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it. Fjera throws a lazy uppercut
and Steigelmann counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Fjera just misses with a punch to the body.
Fjera takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Steigelmann misses with a straight left. The fighters circle momentarily. Steigelmann darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
It looks like Nick Fjera has been cut. Fjera throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Steigelmann throws a lazy right hand but Fjera sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Fjera seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym. Steigelmann bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Fjera's head. Steigelmann throws a series of punches but Fjera moves out of range. Steigelmann tests Fjera's chin there with a solid looking shot. Steigelmann has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Steigelmann on the wrong end of a nice hook.
It looks like Gunnar Steigelmann has been cut. The fighters circle momentarily. Steigelmann darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Fjera throws a hook but Steigelmann blocks it. Steigelmann displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Fjera throws out the jab. A countering left hand to the body from Steigelmann misses.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fjera misses with a left hand and Steigelmann cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Fjera misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Steigelmann.
Fjera fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Steigelmann manages to avoid it. Fjera misses with an uppercut. Steigelmann uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Fjera. Steigelmann throws a body kick, spinning off balance and Fjera counters with a shoot takedown. Steigelmann fights it but they end up in guard. Steigelmann looking for a sweep. Not yet Steigelmann, not yet. Fjera might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Steigelmann keeping moving, preventing Fjera from controlling successfully. Fjera stopping the sweep attempt from Steigelmann. Fjera wants to pass the guard but Steigelmann is keeping the position. Steigelmann is adopting a defensive guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fjera trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Fjera throws a big elbow that misses. Steigelmann keeping full guard, as Fjera tries to pass. Fjera is working hard here to advance position. Steigelmann is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Fjera trying to control but Steigelmann is working from the bottom. Fjera pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Steigelmann is keeping the position for now. Fjera postures up in Steigelmann's guard and throws a big left but Steigelmann blocks it. Fjera trying to control but Steigelmann is working from the bottom.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Steigelmann throws a right hand that Fjera ducks under and follows up with a left that Fjera also avoids with ease. Steigelmann misses with a two punch combination.
Fjera swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. Fjera walks into a jab. Steigelmann throws a series of punches but Fjera avoids them all with ease. Steigelmann displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Fjera throws out the jab. Fjera staying out of range there. Fjera rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Steigelmann counters with an inside leg kick. Fjera swats away the attempt to clinch by Steigelmann. Fjera was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger. Steigelmann moves away from the strike by Fjera. Steigelmann avoids a lazy jab quite easily. A jab from Steigelmann misses. Steigelmann moves out of range as Fjera strikes. Fjera lands a nice looking body shot.
Steigelmann throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Fjera sees it coming and avoids it easily. Fjera connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Steigelmann momentarily.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Steigelmann throws a low kick but Fjera avoids it. Fjera connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Steigelmann takes one on the button. Steigelmann misses with a looping right. Steigelmann fails with an attempt to clinch.

Fjera misses with a looping left. Steigelmann slips a straight right by Fjera. Fjera takes a swing at Steigelmann's ribcage but misses. Steigelmann lands the left hand. Steigelmann is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Fjera had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté. Fjera jabbing away but nothing is landing. Steigelmann swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made. Steigelmann misses with a lunging right hand
and Fjera counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Steigelmann misses with a body punch
and Fjera counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Fjera throws a looping overhand right but Steigelmann ducks down to avoid it. Steigelmann let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land. Steigelmann avoids the body shot from Fjera.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Gunnar Steigelmann will probably get the nod. Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Fjera takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

Fjera has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ. Fjera checks a low kick from Steigelmann. Steigelmann moves out of range as Fjera strikes. Steigelmann throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Fjera stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Fjera throws a lazy uppercut
and Steigelmann counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Fjera missing with a left hand there. Steigelmann was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Steigelmann scores with a jab to the jaw. Steigelmann lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Fjera takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Nick Fjera's cut is getting worse. Fjera fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Steigelmann manages to avoid it. Steigelmann looks like he wants to counter punch here. Fjera on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Fjera is rocked! Steigelmann throws a powerful right kick. Fjera tried to block low but the kick was high! Fjera was taken right off of his feet! Steigelmann jumps in to finish the job and the ref tackles him! The fight is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:50 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Gunnar Steigelmann! A very excited looking Gunnar Steigelmann made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
