Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ludi Konj!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Masutatsu Oyama!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Ren Mimura and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Konj darts in looking for a takedown but Oyama gets double underhooks and turns Konj into the cage.
Konj misses with a two punch combination.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Oyama.
Oyama showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Konj.
Ludi Konj seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Konj changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Oyama tries to avoid it but Konj manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Oyama to the ground. Oyama escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Konj misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Oyama shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Konj as he jumps to the side.
Oyama will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

A counter left hand to the body from Konj misses its target.
Konj throws a hook to the side of Oyama's head but Oyama sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Oyama steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Konj.

and Konj counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Konj.

Konj jumps guard and drags Oyama to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Konj has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Oyama drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Oyama jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Oyama shoots in for a double leg but Konj sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Konj misses with a takedown attempt - Oyama sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
And Oyama tries to counter it with a takedown but Konj pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Oyama has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.

Konj tries to bum rush Oyama with a series of wild strikes but Oyama uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Konj goes for a double leg but Oyama avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Oyama continues to drive forward.

Oyama shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Konj pinned against the cage. Konj gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Konj thows a left - swing and a miss!
Oyama steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Konj.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Oyama tries to keep at a distance but Konj has taken the fight into the clinch.

Konj is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Oyama can do to turn this around?

Konj ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Konj no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Oyama postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Konj is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Oyama, into his guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Oyama working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Konj doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Konj manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Oyama escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Konj gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Oyama is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Oyama shoots for a takedown but Konj saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Konj shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Konj showed some decent athleticism there.
Konj uses his free foot to push down on Oyama's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Oyama.

Konj takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Oyama sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Konj cracks Oyama with a big shot to body and one to the head - really punishing Oyama from the back mount here, looking to soften him up.

I really don't envy Oyama right now.
Konj is riding his opponent, not letting Oyama buck him off.

Ludi Konj is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Konj has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
