Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Saul Riggs! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Roman Vaginov! The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Viktor Lagutenko and Valeri Chadov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Vaginov pushes Riggs away with a front kick. Riggs stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Riggs wants it to stay on the feet. Vaginov shoots in for a takedown but Riggs shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Riggs tries to clinch but Vaginov moves out of range. Vaginov feints the counter takedown. Riggs scores with a one two! Vaginov had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes. Riggs tries to keep at a distance but Vaginov has taken the fight into the clinch. Vaginov breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Vaginov misses with a takedown attempt - Riggs sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Saul Riggs has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Roman Vaginov. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Vaginov fails with the takedown. Riggs tries to counter by clinching up but Vaginov breaks away and moves out of range. Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Vaginov!
It looks like Saul Riggs has been cut.
That's one minute gone in the round. Vaginov gets a clinch. Riggs breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Riggs tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Vaginov was well out of range. Poor timing from Riggs. Vaginov keeps the fight on the outside. Riggs really is a fat lump. Vaginov clinches up with Riggs and pushes him back against the cage. Vaginov gets through Riggs's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head. Riggs is trying to pull guard but Vaginov turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Vaginov is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Vaginov's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Vaginov throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Riggs is rocked! Vaginov moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Oh Riggs is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Vaginov steps into range and unloads a brutal right left combo! Riggs is out on his feet! Vaginov sets himself and nearly takes Riggs's head off with a straight right, sending him crashing to the mat! Wow, that was nasty... but awesome! Wooo!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Roman Vaginov!
