PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Valera Razum (ranked 6555 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeffrey Crocker (ranked 6722 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jeffrey Crocker!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Ren Mimura and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Razum closes this distance looking for a takedown but Crocker circles away.
Crocker now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Crocker keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Crocker has taken the fight to the clinch.

Crocker gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Crocker stalling.
Razum is trying to stand back up but Crocker is controlling him
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Razum wants to control but Crocker is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Razum has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Crocker is on him like a limpet, forcing Razum back against the cage.
Crocker gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Razum.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Valera Razum. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Crocker manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Crocker's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Crocker should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Crocker punishes Razum's body with a nice straight punch.
Razum is trying hard to land a takedown here. Crocker sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Razum fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Crocker avoids it really well and circles away.

Razum appears to be looking for a big counter.

Razum trying to keep a closed guard but Crocker is proving a slippery customer.

Crocker avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Razum is breathing heavily.
Crocker is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Razum is looking to stand up but Crocker isn't so interested in that idea.
Razum controls Crocker momentarily but Crocker frees himself.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Crocker drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Crocker jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Razum can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Crocker controls the pace.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Crocker shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Razum pushes Crocker off and gets back to his feet.
Razum misses with a takedown attempt
and Crocker counters with a two punch combo.

Crocker manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Razum on his heels. He'll look to pass Razum's guard now, I'm sure.
Crocker slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Razum looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Crocker puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Razum doesn't manage to clinch there - Crocker circles away.
Valera Razum is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Crocker darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Razum manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Crocker keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
Razum is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Razum is pushing Crocker up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Crocker is pressed up against the cage. Razum has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Crocker down to the mat. Crocker avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Crocker stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Crocker wants it to stay on the feet.
Crocker tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Crocker doesn't manage to clinch there - Razum circles away.

Razum slips a jab and a cross from Crocker.
Razum tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Razum fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Razum shoots in looking for a takedown but Crocker manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Razum's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Crocker has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Razum after a bit of a struggle.

Crocker wants to sweep but no luck.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Razum stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Crocker swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Razum won't allow Crocker to sweep him here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Crocker is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Razum.
Crocker doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Razum counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Razum shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Crocker but Crocker pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Razum is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Crocker closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Razum to the mat! Razum manages to get full guard.
Razum is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Crocker stands and steps away. Razum gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Crocker rushes Razum and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Crocker drags the fight down to the ground.
Crocker controlling the position.
Crocker's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Crocker is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Razum will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Jeffrey Crocker showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Crocker shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Razum napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Razum is looking to regain half guard here but Crocker keeps moving and retains side control.
Jeffrey Crocker has got the better of the ground game so far.

Crocker decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Crocker misses with a body shot.

Crocker closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Crocker lands in his opponent's guard.

Razum being controlled here, momentarily.
Crocker has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Razum controlling the position.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Crocker is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Crocker wants to control from the top but Razum keeps moving.
Razum is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Crocker is looking to clinch but Razum is avoiding it.
Razum avoids a kick to the body.
Razum fails in his attempt to clinch.

and Razum counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Crocker kicks off Razum and gets to his feet.
Valera Razum has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jeffrey Crocker is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well Crocker has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
