Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ramon Gracie (ranked 125 p4p, 21 weight class) and Pavel Savkov (ranked 206 p4p, 31 weight class). Gracie's entrance music is Jiu Jitsu: Vai Finaliza!. A fine choice. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Ramon Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Pavel Savkov!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Richard Clark and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie fails in his attempt to clinch.
Gracie ducks under a wild hook from Savkov.
Gracie swings widly with a right hand
and Gracie takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Gracie lands a lovely overhand right.
Gracie doesn't manage to clinch there - Savkov circles away.
Savkov misses with a combination

and Gracie counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Gracie.
Savkov lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Gracie backwards.
Gracie is looking to take this one to the mat.
Gracie has a couple of punches blocked by Savkov.
Savkov pressing his opponent against the cage.
Come on Gracie - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Savkov misses with a shot to the kidneys.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Savkov is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Savkov is persisting with his attempts to control the action in the clinch, rather than do any real damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Savkov breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Savkov misses with a hook.
Savkov waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Gracie.
Pavel Savkov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gracie bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Gracie tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Savkov manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Savkov throws a hook but Gracie avoids it easily.
Savkov misses with a hook

and Gracie counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Gracie is standing up over Savkov. Savkov looks to escape but Gracie dives into side control.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gracie working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Gracie has knee on belly and moves into mount.
We've been hearing that Gracie has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Savkov is desperately trying to improve his position but Gracie has a good base and remains in mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Savkov tries to control the position but Gracie now has his back.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Gracie punches Savkov on the ear.
Savkov looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Savkov is trying to stand back up.
Savkov tries to break free.
Savkov rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Gracie trying to control the action but Savkov is working from the bottom.
Savkov is looking for a sweep. Gracie is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Savkov has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at St Petersburg MMA Gym. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
Savkov moves into full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Savkov tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Savkov had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Gracie defends it easily.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Savkov is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Savkov is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Gracie defends well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Savkov looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Gracie wants to pass the guard but Savkov is keeping the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Gracie wants to control from the top but Savkov keeps moving.
Gracie stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Savkov swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Gracie sitting in guard doing not very much at all here. Savkov doesn't need a second invitation though! He's locked up a guillotine and he's squeezing tight! That is tiiiiiiiiight! Gracie paying the price for stalling here - he's pushing hard on the arm trying to free himself but it's no use! He's tapped! WOW, quick submission from Savkov - great work!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Pavel Savkov!
During a confident post fight interview, Pavel Savkov thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
