Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Gennady Mikhasevich! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Joe Gonzales! The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, John Kavanagh and Joseph Jones.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gonzales misses with a left hand and Gonzales takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Mikhasevich lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Gonzales backs up against the cage.
It looks like Joe Gonzales has been cut. A slapping leg kick lands for Gonzales.
Gonzales throws a big shot that misses. Gonzales swings widly with a right hand
and Mikhasevich counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. Mikhasevich lands a jab to the head.
Gonzales misses with a looping left. Mikhasevich swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. Mikhasevich paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Mikhasevich pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Gonzales back to the cage. Mikhasevich follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
That has opened up Joe Gonzales's cut even more. Mikhasevich stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Mikhasevich feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Gonzales sprawling to the canvas! Gonzales rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Mikhasevich finish him?!
Gonzales is rocked! Mikhasevich drops Gonzales with a straight right hand, right on the button! Mikhasevich follows him down to the mat and pounds him out with hammerfists until the referee jumps in to end the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:44 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Gennady Mikhasevich! A relieved looking Gennady Mikhasevich thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
