Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kent Velez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Duke Ditch! The judges for this bout are Chris Dean, Winston Howard and Skip Squint.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ditch looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Velez attempts a counter takedown but Ditch avoids it well and moves away. Velez really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. That kick from Ditch tenderised Velez's leg. Velez is trying to keep his angry face on. Duke Ditch seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. The fighters circling - Ditch throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Velez changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit. Velez tries to clinch but Ditch moves out of range. Velez takes the fight into the clinch. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Velez has Ditch pressed against the cage, preventing Ditch from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Velez successfully pulls guard.
Velez has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Velez had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Ditch defends it easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Velez looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Ditch postures up in Velez's guard and throws a big left but Velez blocks it. Velez controlling Ditch's posture. Ditch would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Velez will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Ditch trying to control the position from guard on top but Velez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Velez has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Ditch is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position. Ditch tries to break free but Velez pushes him back against the cage.

Velez tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Ditch smiles and moves away.
Ditch comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Velez wants to clinch up but Ditch keeps it at a distance. Ditch wants to clinch. Velez half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. Kent Velez is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Velez moves into the clinch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ditch is looking to control Velez's arms but Velez gets an underhook and turns him. Now Ditch has his back to the cage. Velez manages to break the clinch.
Velez clinches up against the cage. Ditch breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Ditch shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Velez as he avoids it easily. Velez drops down looking for a counter takedown but Ditch sprawls and moves away. Ditch looks to land a combination but Velez avoids it well. Ditch fails with the takedown and Velez counters with an inside leg kick. Kent Velez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Duke Ditch.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Ditch shoots in and drives through. Velez sprawls well. Velez attempts a counter takedown but Ditch avoids it well and moves away. Thud! ouch! good body kick from Velez - that will leave a mark!
Ditch closes the distance and pushes Velez back into the cage. The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch. Velez fails to pull guard.
Velez lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage. Velez pulls guard effortlessly. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Velez has a closed guard, preventing Ditch from standing up. Ditch got a little sloppy there for a moment and Velez has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ditch has managed to get both his arms back between Velez's legs - danger averted. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Kent Velez dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Velez defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Ditch. Velez appears to be looking for a counter takedown. Velez is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Ditch can do to turn this around? Ditch has a takedown stuffed. Ditch blocks a head kick by Velez.

Perhaps he's looking to stall. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Ditch pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Velez is keeping the position for now. Velez is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ditch wants to get up but he can't break Velez's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Ditch gets to his feet - Velez follows without any prompting. Ditch throws a right hand that Velez ducks under and follows up with a left that Velez also avoids with ease. Velez drops down looking for a counter takedown but Ditch sprawls and moves away. Ditch shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Ditch showed some decent athleticism there. Velez kicks Ditch off and gets back to his feet. Ditch is breathing heavily. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Velez moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross. Velez gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Velez wants a takedown but no success here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ditch wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Velez has him pressed against the cage. Velez is defending well against a takedown attempt. Kent Velez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Duke Ditch. Velez has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Ditch after a bit of a struggle. Velez prevents a takedown attempt there.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Ditch fails with an attempt to clinch.
Velez drops down looking for a counter takedown but Ditch sprawls and moves away. Ditch looks to land a left hand but Velez moved out of range nicely. Kent Velez is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Velez circles away from the clinch attempt and Velez counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Ditch thinking. Velez darts in and clinches Ditch up against the cage. Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Ditch obliges. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Ditch escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
No luck for Ditch with that takedown attempt. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's one minute gone in the round. Ditch shoots for a takedown but Velez saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Velez uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Ditch.
Ditch takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Velez fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Ditch, pushing him back against the cage. Ditch misses with a hook to the ribs.
Velez is struggling to control the position. Velez drags the fight down to the ground.
Velez pulls Ditch in to control the position. Ditch must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Velez is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Ditch defends well. Kent Velez overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Velez looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Ditch wants to get up but he can't break Velez's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Velez has his hands on Ditch's head, controlling the position. Velez wants to sweep but no luck. Ditch trying to stand up but can't free himself from Velez's guard. Velez is looking for a triangle but Ditch pushes his legs off easily.
Velez has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Ditch is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Velez. Velez wants to control but Ditch postures up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ditch tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it. Velez is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Ditch off and has taken his back! Velez controls the action. Ditch tries to break free.
Ditch keeps trying to improve his position. Velez is working the ground and pound. Can Ditch escape? Velez is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Ditch defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined. Velez is cranking Ditch's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for Ditch! He's tightened the choke and Ditch is tapping out!
