PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ontari Vagos (ranked 1754 p4p, 238 weight class) and Jake The Dog (ranked 4662 p4p, 504 weight class). The Dog has chosen Meditation Time as his entrance music. Ontari Vagos has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ontari Vagos!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jake The Dog!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Chris Downing and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vagos throws out a powerful jab.
The Dog swings for the body but Vagos moves out of range.
Vagos changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Vagos scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. The Dog doesn't seem bothered though.

The Dog darts in and clinches Vagos up against the cage.
The referee is keeping an eye on The Dog - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
The Dog holding his opponent close, against the cage.
A right handed body shot lands from Vagos.
The Dog prevents a body shot from Vagos.
Vagos dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.
Vagos jumps guard but The Dog stands there with Vagos around his waist. Vagos gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
The Dog blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Vagos tries to throw a body punch but The Dog avoids it by throwing Vagos back against the cage.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as The Dog takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
The Dog lands a right hand.
Vagos has The Dog pressed against the cage.
The Dog lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Vagos backwards.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The Dog's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Vagos decides to pull guard.
The Dog is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Vagos looking to hit a scissor sweep but The Dog is one step ahead there.
The Dog is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The Dog tries to free his leg and advance position but Vagos is retaining full guard.
The Dog pushing down on Vagos's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
The Dog takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Vagos is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The Dog wants to free his trapped foot but Vagos is holding on for dear life with his legs.
The Dog is taking a breather. Vagos says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Vagos is trying to get back to full guard.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
The Dog has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Vagos is trying desperately to improve position.
The Dog controlling the pace for now.
Vagos throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.
The Dog looking to control and managing it successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The Dog connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
The Dog controlling from mount.
Vagos tries to hold on but The Dog postures up.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake The Dog dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


The Dog cracks Vagos with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.


It looks like Ontari Vagos has been cut.
Vagos moves out of range of the strikes.
The Dog swings for the body but Vagos moves out of range.
Vagos half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
The Dog moves out of range of the leg kick from Vagos.
We've been told by Vagos's head coaches at Malmi Aitta that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
The Dog tries to clinch but Vagos is having none of it.
Vagos feinted with a counter takedown.
The Dog throws an overhand right that lands on Vagos's shoulder, as Vagos tries to avoid the shot.
The Dog fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Vagos looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

The Dog gets a clinch.
The Dog lands a hook to the side of the head.
The Dog avoiding damage.
The Dog lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Vagos pulls guard successfully.
The Dog sitting in guard here, content to control.
Vagos looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
The Dog sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Vagos's guard.

Vagos has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. The Dog is working away from the top position though.

The Dog passes into side control, despite Vagos's attempt to control the position.

Vagos sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Jake The Dog has got the better of the ground game so far.
The Dog throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The Dog content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
The Dog's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Vagos moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
The Dog's corner is telling him to maintain position.
The Dog has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Vagos is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Vagos working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from The Dog.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The Dog is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
The Dog working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Vagos's head.

The Dog is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Vagos working for a triangle but The Dog defends it easily.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Vagos throws a shot to the body.
Vagos connects with a crisp jab.
Vagos fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but The Dog is out of range.
The Dog throws a low kick, looking for Vagos's leg but Vagos calmly moves out of range.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Vagos lands a body shot.
A nice inside leg kick there by The Dog. That's going to slow Vagos down.
Jake The Dog seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Vagos takes a body punch but keeps moving.
The Dog uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Vagos has time to react.
The Dog connects with a body shot.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The Dog throws a low kick but Vagos avoids it.
The Dog keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Vagos lands a jab to The Dog's midsection.
The Dog lands with a hook. Vagos tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Vagos misses with a low kick.
The Dog wants to counter with a clinch but Vagos pushes him away.
The Dog scores with a jab to the head.
The Dog ducks right into an uppercut from Vagos.
Vagos misses the shot to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake The Dog showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Ontari Vagos's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Vagos is rocked!
The Dog lands an uppercut in the clinch that drops Vagos to his knees! The Dog keeps firing more shots against his stricken opponent and the referee jumps in to save him!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:26 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jake The Dog!
A less than humble Jake The Dog misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
In defeat, Ontari Vagos stepped up to the mic, saying 'I'll come back stronger, wiser and I do want to wish my opponent well in their future endeavors.'.
