PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Herritt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Martin Lindner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Martin Lindner will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ryan Herritt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Martin Lindner!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Alec Ball and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Herritt shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Lindner tries to kick Herritt off but Herritt keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Lindner looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Herritt lands strikes from half guard.
Herritt is nestled in close to Lindner, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Herritt not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Lindner is staying active underneath Herritt, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Herritt sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Lindner defending well though.
Lindner pushes Herritt off looking to stand but Herritt dives back in and keeps control.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Herritt in particular looking to stall.
Herritt throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
A right-left combo lands from Lindner.
Lindner stuffs the takedown attempt from Herritt. Herritt gets slowly back to his feet.
Herritt scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Lindner shoots and misses

and Herritt holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Herritt lands with a left to the head.
A nice left hand lands by Herritt.
Herritt looking for a takedown.
Herritt is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Lindner pulls him back up using the underhooks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ryan Herritt. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Lindner lands a knee to the body.
Herritt drops down looking for an ankle pick but Lindner pulls his leg out and moves away.
Herritt is breathing heavily.

and Herritt counters with a nice double leg into side control. Lindner won't be happy with that.

Herritt wants to advance to full mount but Lindner doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.

and Lindner counters with a nice body kick.

Lindner seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Lindner is pressing down on Herritt's thigh, looking to free his foot. Herritt is holding on for now.
Lindner wants to stand up but Herritt is controlling the position.

Lindner has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Herritt is trying to keep an underhook but Lindner manages to get the takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Herritt is trying to get back to full guard.

Herritt has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Lindner is working away from the top position though.

Herritt pushes Lindner off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Lindner is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Herritt has escaped the position, nice work there.
Herritt manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Ryan Herritt overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Herritt is looking for a sweep. Lindner is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Herritt is working hard here to advance position.

Herritt is trying to stand up here but Lindner is controlling him well.
Lindner passes into side control, despite Herritt's attempt to control the position.

Watch the back of the head! Comes the shout from the referee towards Lindner.
Lindner controls the action.
Herritt breaks Lindner's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Lindner keeping moving, preventing Herritt from controlling successfully.
Herritt connects with a couple of short punches.
Herritt trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Herritt is stalling in the full guard.

Herritt stands up and waves to Lindner to follow him.
Herritt stalks Lindner and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Lindner's face. Lindner staggers backwards, shaken.
Herritt stuffs the takedown attempt from Lindner. Lindner gets slowly back to his feet.

Herritt has managed to clinch.
Lindner is looking to control Herritt's arms but Herritt gets an underhook and turns him. Now Lindner has his back to the cage.
Lindner misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Herritt.

Herritt breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Herritt shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Lindner as he avoids it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Martin Lindner showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Herritt clinches but Lindner breaks the clinch

and Lindner decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Herritt's guard.
Lindner trying to control the position from guard on top but Herritt is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Herritt is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Herritt bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Lindner's guard.
Lindner is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Herritt looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Herritt has hold of Lindner's hands but Lindner slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Lindner prevents Herritt from standing back up.

Herritt is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Lindner pulls his head out easily.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Herritt is looking to improve his position.
Lindner wants to stand but Herritt has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Herritt wants to control but Lindner is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Lindner blocks the strikes from Herritt.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Lindner darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Herritt is staying active underneath Lindner, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Herritt makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Herritt.
Lindner wants to stand but Herritt is controlling his posture from full guard.
Herritt manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Herritt landing strikes from the mount.
Herritt is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Lindner can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Herritt lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Lindner is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Herritt lands a nice shot to the head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Herritt wants to control but Lindner has made it back to half guard. Nice work.
Herritt wants to stand up but Lindner manages to regain full guard.
Herritt tries to free his leg and advance position but Lindner is retaining full guard.
Lindner pulls Herritt in close to prevent any damage.
Lindner controls Herritt momentarily but Herritt frees himself.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Herritt sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Lindner keeping full guard, as Herritt tries to pass.
Herritt keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Lindner's head.
Herritt stopping the sweep attempt from Lindner.
Herritt controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Herritt has gone for a leg lock! Lindner slips out almost immediately though and dives into Herritt's guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Martin Lindner comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Lindner has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
