PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bjj Penn (ranked 7239 p4p, 721 weight class) and Jeremy Stylez (ranked 8643 p4p, 765 weight class). Penn comes to the cage accompanied by Sky Serpent. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bjj Penn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jeremy Stylez!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Marco Blurström and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

It looks like Bjj Penn has been cut.
Penn avoids the head kick by Stylez.
Left hook, right uppercut from Stylez.
Stylez throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Penn on the side of the head.
Stylez cracks Penn with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Stylez scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Penn has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Stylez.

Penn changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

Stylez dives in and scores a takedown into Penn's guard.

Penn wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Stylez would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Penn lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Penn is pushing down on Stylez's leg trying to pass to half guard. Stylez is fighting to maintain full guard but Penn has managed to sneak the leg through.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Stylez throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Penn counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Penn slows the pace down in half guard.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Stylez throws a right hand that Penn ducks under and follows up with a left that Penn also avoids with ease.
Penn tries to counter with a takedown but Stylez is quick to defend against it.
Stylez looks to land a combination but Penn avoids it well.

Jeremy Stylez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Stylez throws a nice looking combination but Penn bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Penn is looking to regain half guard here but Stylez keeps moving and retains side control.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
The fighters are battling for position here. Penn manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Penn's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Stylez wants to pass the guard but Penn is keeping the position.
Penn is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Stylez has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Penn is on top in guard.

Stylez looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Penn puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Stylez is looking to control Penn's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Stylez avoid being mounted?

Penn is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Penn prevents Stylez from standing back up.
Penn is taking a breather. Stylez says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Stylez keeps Penn at a distance using the push kick.
Stylez pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Penn back to the cage. Stylez follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

Jeremy Stylez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! Penn's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Stylez changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Penn looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Both fighters take a look at the clock.
Jeremy Stylez has got the better of the ground game so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Stylez wants to stand but Penn is controlling his arm.

Penn tries to improve position but can't.
Penn is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Stylez off and has taken his back!
Penn is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

You can see the frustration on Stylez's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Stylez is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
I would not like to be Stylez right now.

Penn has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Penn seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Stylez for as long as he can get away with.
Stylez wants to get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
I would not like to be Stylez right now.
Jeremy Stylez is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Bjj Penn has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Penn punches the canvas rather than the man.
