Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Major Hicks (ranked 25704 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nicolas Baumann (ranked 6409 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Nicolas Baumann! The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Ivan Kurochkin and Dmitry Maklakov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hicks shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Hicks was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Baumann manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Baumann is trying to stand back up but Hicks is controlling him
Hicks trying to control from half guard but Baumann is working away. The fighters are battling for position here. Baumann manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Baumann is trying to control the position from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hicks slips nicely into half guard. Baumann is pressing down on Hicks's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Hicks lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Baumann trying to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Baumann wants to stand but Hicks is controlling the position. Baumann bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Hicks's guard. Baumann not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Baumann accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Baumann trying to control but Hicks is working from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Baumann looking to sit in guard and control but Hicks gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Hicks has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Hicks throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Baumann works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Baumann controls Hicks momentarily but Hicks frees himself. Baumann keeping moving, preventing Hicks from controlling successfully. Baumann keeping full guard, as Hicks tries to pass. Baumann tries to land a sweep but no joy. Hicks tries to free his leg and advance position but Baumann is retaining full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hicks is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Baumann is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Baumann has escaped and now he's on top!
Baumann gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Hicks gets a clinch. Baumann's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Baumann tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Hicks defends well and Baumann ends up having to push Hicks into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Baumann shoots in looking for a takedown. Hicks tries to sprawl out of it but Baumann keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Hicks manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Hicks looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hicks moves into the clinch. Hicks turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Baumann wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! Baumann wants to control but Hicks postures up. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Baumann is looking for a sweep. Baumann looks winded! Hicks cracks Baumann with a big right hand but Baumann just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Major Hicks dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Hicks tries to keep at a distance but Baumann has taken the fight into the clinch. Baumann has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Hicks is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Baumann dodges an elbow strike from Hicks.
Hicks goes for a takedown in the clinch but Baumann prevents it.
Baumann pulls guard effortlessly. Baumann is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Hicks distracts Baumann with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Baumann stands up over Hicks, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Baumann drops back, looking for a kneebar! Hicks looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Hicks looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Hicks!
Hicks thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Baumann manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Hicks tries to roll over but Baumann keeps him under control. Baumann wants to stand up but Hicks is controlling the position.
Hicks knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Baumann on the ground. Baumann not landing any meaningful shots this time. Baumann is trying to control. Hicks wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Baumann looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Baumann trying to control from half guard but Hicks is working away. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Nicolas Baumann showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Baumann ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Baumann no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Baumann is controlling Hicks's posture. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Baumann has a closed guard, preventing Hicks from standing up. Baumann not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Baumann takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Hicks trying to control but Baumann is working from the bottom. Baumann wants to sweep but no luck. Baumann wants to control the position but Hicks says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard. Baumann looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Baumann trying to control but Hicks postures up.

Baumann is looking to get back to full guard here but Hicks has managed to pass to side control instead. Baumann misses with a strike from the bottom. Baumann pushes Hicks away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Hicks gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Hicks is trying to get an arm triangle but Baumann is defending well. Hicks is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Baumann is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Baumann sneaks back into half guard. Hicks is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Baumann has managed to free his arm - good work. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Baumann is looking for a sweep. Hicks is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Nicolas Baumann. I think Baumann has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
