Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
50 - 29 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Thomas Boothe! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
13 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Uriah Faber! The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Mauricio Rocha and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Faber shoots in and gets a takedown into Boothe's guard. Faber stays in close to Boothe's body and controls the position. Faber stopping the sweep attempt from Boothe. Boothe has his hands on Faber's head, controlling the position. Faber advances position into side control! The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Faber is trying to get an arm triangle but Boothe is defending well. Faber wants to take a breather but Boothe manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Faber. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Faber pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Boothe is keeping the position for now.
That's one minute gone in the round. Boothe wants to hit a switch here but Faber passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Boothe there! Faber jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Boothe is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Boothe and Faber has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Faber tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Faber is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Boothe knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Faber trying to control the position but Boothe is working away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Faber is trying to get an arm triangle but Boothe is defending well. Faber wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Boothe, who protects the arm well. Faber has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Boothe is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Faber yanks on the arm and Boothe is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Faber.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Uriah Faber! A very excited looking Uriah Faber made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
