TWGC 18 (170lbs, D1): Montreal Qualifier - Round 2 PBP Commentary


Coming up we have a welterweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Jack Burton (ranked 3275 p4p, 0 weight class) and Darwin France (ranked 9874 p4p, 0 weight class). France has chosen bring me to life as his entrance music. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the welterweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Sydney, with a TWGC record of 6 wins and 1 losses; Jack Burton! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 5 wins and 3 losses; Darwin France!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Ian Loll and Gregory Folan.


Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious?

Burton gets tackled into the cage by France. France maintains the clinch.

France jumps guard and drags Burton to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Burton stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. France swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Burton sitting in guard, not really doing much.
France is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

France is trying to keep Burton in close.
Burton has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

France not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Burton trying to control the position from guard on top but France is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Burton slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

France working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Burton doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Burton manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Burton tries to free his leg and advance position but France is retaining full guard.
France has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Burton has passed into side control.

France is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
France tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Burton wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Burton is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, France has escaped the position, nice work there.
What's France going to do here then? He's in a bit of a pickle.
France manages to get back to half guard.
France felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
France is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
France wants to control but Burton is keeping busy.
France tries to get to full guard but Burton has control of the leg.
France gets back to full guard.

France looking to control.

France looking for a guillotine here but Burton defends easily.
Burton postures up.
France keeping moving, preventing Burton from controlling successfully.
France looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
France wants to sweep here but Burton controlling him for the moment.

Burton trying to control but France is working from the bottom.
Burton works a leg free and moves into half guard.
France tries to roll over but Burton keeps him under control.
Burton seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but France does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Burton prevents France from improving his position.

France is looking to get back to full guard here but Burton has managed to pass to side control instead.

France is trying to control Burton's posture but Burton avoids it.
France manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Burton is working for a kimura but France is defending it quite comfortably.

Burton is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

France is looking for a sweep. Burton is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Burton is trying to control the action in half guard but France is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Burton tries to pass the half guard into mount. France knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Burton is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Burton is thwarting France's attempts to control the position.
France wants to get back to full guard.
France wants to control but Burton is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Burton is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. France doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Burton.

France is concentrating on defense, preventing Burton from advancing position.
Burton seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
France is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Burton's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Burton's back!

France has his arm under Burton's chin here. Game over son! France squeezes tightly and Burton is forced to tap out!
