Coming up we have a heavyweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Brodie Grundy (ranked 3660 p4p, 436 weight class) and Arvo Laar (ranked 2712 p4p, 393 weight class). Laar has chosen some random 90's estonia dance song i found on youtube as his entrance music. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of London, with a TWGC record of 1 wins and 0 losses; Brodie Grundy! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 3 wins and 3 losses; Arvo Laar! The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Ian Loll and Dillan Fox.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Laar closes the distance and pushes Grundy back into the cage. Grundy is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. Laar has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Grundy uses from the top position. Laar keeping full guard, as Grundy tries to pass. Grundy slips nicely into half guard. Laar tries to roll over but Grundy keeps him under control. Grundy is looking to advance position but Laar won't allow it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Grundy is taking a breather. Laar says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Grundy is figuring out what he wants to do next. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Laar looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Grundy takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Laar is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Laar is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Grundy pulls his head out easily. Grundy content to control rather than advance. Grundy has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. That's seven minutes gone in the round. Grundy has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Grundy will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Grundy gets his hands free as Laar looks to control. Grundy has good solid back control here.

Grundy's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Laar trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Laar drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Laar jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Laar thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Grundy is pulling down on Laar's head. It's preventing any offense from Laar, at least for the moment. Laar trying to control the position from guard on top but Grundy is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Laar stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Grundy swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that's the end of the fight! Grundy takes the fight on points by 6 to 2. Brodie Grundy was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed. |
