6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Palaktingpuet Payakarakatong! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Djalo Tavares! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Gwen Towbar and Stewart Dunkirk.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tavares is looking to clinch but Payakarakatong is avoiding it.
Tavares tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Payakarakatong gets tackled into the cage by Tavares. Tavares maintains the clinch. We've been informed that Tavares has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result. Tavares blocks a body shot from Payakarakatong. Payakarakatong tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Tavares's elbow. An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Tavares. Payakarakatong drags the fight down to the ground.
Payakarakatong escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Tavares gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Tavares postures up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Tavares landing some decent shots from guard. Payakarakatong definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Tavares tries to free his leg and advance position but Payakarakatong is retaining full guard. Tavares slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Payakarakatong is looking for a triangle but Tavares pushes his legs off easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tavares landing with the ground and pound. Payakarakatong being controlled here, momentarily. Tavares trying to control but Payakarakatong is working from the bottom. Payakarakatong is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Payakarakatong working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Tavares doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Payakarakatong is tightening it up a little... Tavares has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Tavares reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Tavares taps out! Nice BJJ there by Payakarakatong!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Palaktingpuet Payakarakatong! Palaktingpuet Payakarakatong tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool. In defeat, Djalo Tavares stepped up to the mic, saying 'Ami na findau cadera!'.
