Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Baron Shushkev! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Zapi Zap! The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Alyssa Summers and Steve Montenegro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Zap closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Shushkev quickly recovers to half guard. Shushkev actively working from the bottom here. Shushkev is looking for a sweep. Zap is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Shushkev is working hard here to advance position. Zap really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Shushkev. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Zap is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Zap performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Zap trying to advance position but Shushkev counters by regaining guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shushkev looking for a guillotine here but Zap defends easily.
Shushkev can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Zap controls the pace. Shushkev had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Zap defends it easily. Shushkev is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Zap controlling from the top position. Shushkev is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Zap is aware though and is defending well. Zap won't allow Shushkev to sweep him here. Zap stands up over Shushkev, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Zap trying to control the position from guard on top but Shushkev is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Zap stands up over his opponent, looking to dive in with a big punch. Here he comes, superman style! Oh, the punch misses and Shushkev has got him in a triangle choke for good measure! Oh no! Zap manages to get his head free but now Shushkev has transitioned to an armbar! Zap grimaces and is forced to tap! Beautiful Jiu Jitsu from Shushkev! I'd be surprised if that didn't end up as submission of the night!
