Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Maki Pulu (ranked 1181 p4p, 39 weight class) and Reed Basaev (ranked 807 p4p, 29 weight class). Pulu kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Alive. Reed Basaev has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
26 - 16 - 0, fighting out of New York, Maki Pulu! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
12 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Reed Basaev! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Frank Dennis and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pulu misses with a low kick as Basaev jumps back. A looping hook to the body misses from Pulu. Basaev does a little dance to reset his feet. Pulu tried to score with a low kick but Basaev checks it. Pulu shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Basaev defends it nicely. We've been informed that Basaev has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result. Basaev looks to land a left hand but Pulu moved out of range nicely. Basaev tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him. Basaev looking to land some kicks to the body here.

Pulu works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
It looks like Reed Basaev has been cut. Basaev getting the better of the striking in that exchange. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Basaev slips under a jab from Pulu. Basaev ducks under a wild hook from Pulu. Basaev on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Pulu. Pulu with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Basaev to score with a decent uppercut.
It looks like Maki Pulu has been cut. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Pulu with a lazy takedown attempt and Basaev counters with a nice uppercut.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pulu gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Pulu takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Maki Pulu. That's going to take a lot out of him. Pulu looks to land a body kick but Basaev moved away. Pulu's jab looks to have found its range, popping Basaev under the eye. Pulu avoids a kick to the body.
Pulu bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Pulu shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Basaev pinned against the cage. Basaev gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Pulu shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Basaev as he jumps to the side. Basaev throws a lazy right hand but Pulu sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Pulu throws the left hand but Basaev avoids the punch easily. Basaev lands a high kick!
Pulu tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target. Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Pulu. Basaev shrugs it off though.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pulu needs to keep his hands up - Basaev had a free shot at his head there.
Maki Pulu's cut is getting worse. Reed Basaev is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Pulu misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Basaev.
Basaev connects with a crisp jab. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Pulu throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. Basaev is clearly looking to counter with head kicks. Pulu moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Basaev scores with a body shot.
Pulu tries to land a front kick but Basaev steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Basaev blocks a jab. Pulu pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Pulu throws out a leg kick but Basaev moves out of range and Pulu only half commits. Pulu dodges the punch combination from Basaev.
Pulu wants to slow Basaev down by chopping away at his legs. Basaev scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Pulu's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Basaev connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Pulu scrambles back to his feet.
Maki Pulu's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it. Pulu looking to land some kicks to the body here.
and Basaev counters with a massive uppercut that badly hurts Pulu! He's just covering up as Basaev starts to tee off till the referee steps in and stops the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:05 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Reed Basaev! Reed Basaev is the new super heavyweight champion! Reed Basaev spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
