Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Edgar Alves! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Joe Joe! The judges for this bout are William Peck, Yves DeLean and Dillan Fox.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Alves misses with a takedown attempt - Joe sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Joe let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land. Alves shoots in for a takedown but Joe shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Alves throws a hook to the side of Joe's head but Joe sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Joe doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter. Alves fails with a takedown attempt from distance. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Edgar Alves. That's going to take a lot out of him. Joe slips a straight right by Alves. Alves misses with a takedown attempt - Joe sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Joe defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Alves. Joe looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it. Alves loads up on a big right hand but Joe slips the punch. A little jabbing left from Joe on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. Joe gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Alves wants to control from the top but Joe keeps moving. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Alves throws a big right hand that misses. Alves wants to pass the guard but Joe is keeping the position. Alves trying to control but Joe is working from the bottom. Joe is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Alves wants to improve his position but Joe is controlling well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Alves is concentrating on defense, preventing Joe from advancing position. Alves wants to get back to full guard. Joe with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Alves is staying active underneath Joe, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Alves is looking for a sweep. Joe is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Alves wants to sweep but Joe has passed to side control!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Alves is trying to improve his position. A lull in the action here as Joe stalls from top position. Alves is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Joe is one step ahead and moves to full mount! Alves tries to get back to half guard but can't. Alves wants to control but Joe is having none of it. Alves keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Alves tries to hold on but Joe postures up. Alves is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Joe is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Joe takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Alves tries to hold on but Joe pushes him away. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Joe Joe dominated that round. The cut man is working on Edgar Alves's cut. That's time! Alves's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Alves dives in and scores a takedown into Joe's guard. Joe has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Alves with a flurry of punches that miss. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Alves accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Alves is looking to work some ground and pound but Joe has wrist control. Alves works over Joe with some ground and pound from guard. Joe controlling the position. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Alves wants to pass the guard but Joe is keeping the position. Joe wants to stand up but Alves is controlling him. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Alves landing with the ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Alves looking to sit in guard and control but Joe gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Alves is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Alves controls Joe momentarily but Joe frees himself. Alves looking to control but Joe passes into half guard.
Alves is trying to control but Joe manages to pass to mount!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Alves tries to get back to half guard but can't. Alves is squirming around, avoiding Joe's attempts to control the action. Alves tries to hold on but Joe pushes him away. Alves holds on to Joe as tight as he can, avoiding damage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Alves tries to get back to half guard but can't. Alves sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Joe trying to control the pace. Alves is looking to control Joe's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Alves avoid being mounted?
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Alves is looking to improve his position.
Alves is working hard here to advance position. Alves looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Joe slaps away a takedown attempt from Alves, before circling back to the center of the mat. It seemed like Joe was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but Joe Joe will probably get the nod - 10:9. The cut man is working on Edgar Alves's cut. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!
Joe slips a jab from Alves. Joe doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter. Joe leaves Alves with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Joe now looks to counter with a shot at the body. Alves shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Joe sprawls well. Joe wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Alves gets slowly back to his feet. Joe only half commits to the counter leg kick. Joe ducks under a wild hook from Alves. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Joe slips under a jab from Alves. Alves throws a leg kick but Joe checks it. Joe doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter. Alves shoots in for a double leg but Joe sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Edgar Alves. That's going to take a lot out of him. Alves looks for a takedown but Joe sprawls well. A nice side step and Joe releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
That's one minute gone in the round. Alves closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Alves is looking to take a break and control but Joe is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Joe avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Alves. Alves misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Alves wants to lay and pray for a moment but Joe keeps working.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Joe gets back to half guard. Alves wants to control but Joe is keeping him busy. Joe Joe has got the better of the ground game so far. Alves thows a huge punch but Joe dodges it nicely.
Alves is looking to take a break and control but Joe is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Joe is looking to improve his position.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Alves thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Alves shoots in and bounces Joe off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Alves controls from within his opponent's guard. Joe working a defensive guard here.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Alves looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Alves wants to control from the top but Joe keeps moving. Alves postures up in Joe's guard and throws a big left but Joe blocks it.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Edgar Alves has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Edgar Alves seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Alves throws a lazy right hand but Joe sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Joe looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it.
And that's the end of the fight! Edgar Alves showed his dominance in that final round. Well Joe has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

In favor of your winner, by unanimous decision... Joe Joe! A less than humble Joe Joe misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
