Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between David Smathers (ranked 3959 p4p, 142 weight class) and AK Kalasznikov (ranked 5180 p4p, 189 weight class). David Smathers has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, David Smathers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, AK Kalasznikov!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Paulo Santos and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kalasznikov closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Kalasznikov tightens his grip and picks Smathers up, before dumping him to the ground. Smathers manages to land in guard.

Smathers is working an open guard so Kalasznikov takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Smathers blocks a low kick nicely.

Kalasznikov clinches.
Smathers has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Kalasznikov avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Kalasznikov fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Smathers, pushing him back against the cage.

Smathers is looking for a triangle but Kalasznikov pushes his legs off easily.

Kalasznikov wants to get up but he can't break Smathers's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Smathers working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kalasznikov doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kalasznikov manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Smathers has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Smathers has his foot on Kalasznikov's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kalasznikov works his way back into a safe position though.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Kalasznikov is looking for a sweep. Smathers is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Smathers is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Kalasznikov to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Kalasznikov shrugs it off.

Well Kalasznikov has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
