Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Scott Blaker (ranked 5538 p4p, 569 weight class) and Vladimir Kovalev (ranked 4025 p4p, 434 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
12 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Scott Blaker! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Vladimir Kovalev! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Stewart Dunkirk and Frank Dennis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Blaker misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Kovalev counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
It looks like Scott Blaker has been cut. Kovalev throws a big shot that misses. Blaker misses with a jab to the body
and Kovalev counters with a straight right hand. Kovalev throws a lazy uppercut
and Blaker counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Blaker misses with an uppercut
and Kovalev counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Kovalev dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Kovalev misses with a looping right. Blaker misses with a jab to the body
and Kovalev counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Blaker misses with a body shot
and Kovalev counters with a straight right hand. Kovalev takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. This has been an exciting period of action! Kovalev swings for the body but Blaker moves out of range.
An attempted straight right counter from Blaker misses the target. Kovalev thuds his right hand into Blaker's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
That's one minute gone in the round. A looping hook to the body misses from Blaker. Kovalev does a little dance to reset his feet. Kovalev moves into range and clinches up with Blaker. Kovalev scores with a shot to the side of Blaker's head. Kovalev digs a right hand into Blaker's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Blaker's gas tank. Good body shot from Kovalev.
A short body shot lands from Kovalev as the two fighters clinch.
Kovalev lands an uppercut. Kovalev lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Blaker. Blaker tries to pull guard but Kovalev won't allow it.
Blaker tries to pull guard but Kovalev holds him up against the cage and eventually Blaker drops back down to his feet.

Blaker is trying to pull guard but Kovalev turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Scott Blaker. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A left hand lands to the body for Kovalev.
Kovalev will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Blaker up against the cage. Kovalev lands a nice shot to the body. Blaker is breathing heavily. Blaker tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Kovalev just stands there and leans against the cage. Kovalev has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight. Kovalev leaning against his opponent.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Kovalev creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Scott Blaker's cut is getting worse. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Good body shot from Kovalev.

The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Vladimir Kovalev. Kovalev keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Blaker slips a straight right by Kovalev. Kovalev cracks Blaker with a right hand to the side of the head.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Oooooh!!! Kovalev has knocked Blaker down with a huge combo! Kovalev steps away and waves a wobbly Blaker back to his feet! This one might not go much longer! Kovalev fakes the body blow, causing Blaker to drop his hands! Left hook to the temple! Blaker goes stiff, and falls face first into the mat. Goodnight!
