Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Norman Wood! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Alex Hadley Jr! The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Chris Saunders and Ryoma Takatsuka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Hadley Jr. Wood tried to counter with a leg kick but Hadley Jr avoided it. Nice sprawl there from Wood as Hadley Jr shoots in. Wood lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick. A head kick by Hadley Jr misses and Wood makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick. Hadley Jr shoots and misses and Wood counters with a single leg into guard. Hadley Jr didn't expect that. Hadley Jr pushes Wood off and gets back to his feet.
Norman Wood has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alex Hadley Jr. Wood stuffs the takedown attempt from Hadley Jr. Hadley Jr gets slowly back to his feet. Hadley Jr shoots and misses and Wood counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Wood. Hadley Jr tries to break free but Wood pushes him back against the cage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hadley Jr tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Wood smiles and moves away.
Hadley Jr shoots in for a double leg but Wood sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Wood half committed to a counter leg kick. Hadley Jr fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Hadley Jr looks winded! Hadley Jr shoots for a double leg takedown but Wood sprawls well. He's pushed Hadley Jr's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Wood feinted there with a counter leg kick. Hadley Jr has Wood up against the cage in a clinch.
Wood escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Hadley Jr shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Wood pinned against the cage. Wood gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Wood lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wood stuffs the takedown attempt from Hadley Jr. Hadley Jr gets slowly back to his feet. Wood shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Hadley Jr is trying to defend but Wood finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Wood is nestled in close to Hadley Jr, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Wood scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Wood slips a nice elbow through Hadley Jr's hands, connecting with Hadley Jr's forehead. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Wood working over Hadley Jr with some ground and pound. Hadley Jr looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Wood not landing any meaningful shots this time. Wood lands strikes from half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Hadley Jr is looking for a sweep. Wood is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Wood landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Wood decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet. Hadley Jr shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Wood counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Wood manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Wood drags the fight down to the ground.
Hadley Jr postures up.
Hadley Jr is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hadley Jr is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Hadley Jr throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Wood works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Hadley Jr stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wood swivels though and keeps the full guard. Hadley Jr wants to control from the top but Wood keeps moving. Wood is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Hadley Jr is controlling him. Wood knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Hadley Jr on the ground. Hadley Jr throwing strikes from guard but Wood blocks nicely. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Norman Wood dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Hadley Jr shoots and misses and Wood counters by clinching up. Hadley Jr is trying to drag Wood to the mat but Wood just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Wood escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Wood avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

That's one minute gone in the round. Wood working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Wood lands a couple of digs. Wood distracts Hadley Jr with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Wood will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Wood stands up from guard. Let's bang! Hadley Jr looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Hadley Jr is breathing heavily. Hadley Jr changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Wood tries to avoid it but Hadley Jr manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Wood to the ground. Wood escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Wood is looking to counter with a shot to the body. Hadley Jr takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Wood tries a head kick but it misses.
Hadley Jr with a poor takedown and Wood counters with a nice double leg into side control. Hadley Jr won't be happy with that.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wood scores with punches from side control. Wood decides to stand back up. Hadley Jr misses with a takedown attempt and Wood counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Wood. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Wood has Hadley Jr pushed against the cage. Wood breaks from the clinch.
Hadley Jr tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Wood swivels and escapes. Wood wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch. Hadley Jr doesn't succeed with the takedown and Wood counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Wood chips away with some ground and pound.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Wood working some strikes from top position. Wood connects with a couple of short punches. Wood with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Wood makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Wood is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Wood scoring with some ground and pound. Wood is in close to Hadley Jr's body, working some short punches and elbows. Hadley Jr is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Wood is aware though and is defending well. Wood gets to his feet - Hadley Jr follows without any prompting. Wood rushes Hadley Jr and presses him up against the cage. The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch. Wood gets control of Hadley Jr's arms and successfully pulls guard. Wood will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Wood not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Norman Wood overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Wood has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hadley Jr can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hadley Jr cracks Wood with a solid left hand. Wood can't keep his opponent in guard - Hadley Jr advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Hadley Jr seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Wood is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
