PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brett Fisher (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ground Pounder (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fisher has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brett Fisher! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ground Pounder! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Daniel Franklin and Robert Twigg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Fisher shoots for a double leg takedown but Pounder sprawls well. He's pushed Fisher's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Pounder shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Fisher wants to control but Pounder is keeping busy.
Pounder controlling the action here. I looks like Pounder might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Let's hope that Pounder has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Pounder is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Pounder takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Pounder looks gassed! Pounder is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Fisher is just riding it out for now. Pounder eventually gives up the hold. Pounder is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Pounder trying to control the action but Fisher is working from the bottom. Fisher wants to control but Pounder is keeping busy.
Pounder is tying to control. Fisher wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Fisher trying to control but Pounder postures up.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Fisher doesn't succeed with the takedown and Pounder counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Fisher works his way to full guard. Good work. Fisher keeping moving, preventing Pounder from controlling successfully. Pounder is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Pounder drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Fisher manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Pounder has Fisher in his guard. Pounder working a defensive guard but Fisher manages to pass into side control anyway.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. You can see the frustration on Pounder's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ground Pounder dominated that round. That's time! Fisher's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Fisher shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Pounder counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Pounder. Pounder is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Fisher working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Pounder doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Pounder manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pounder controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Despite being in the dominant position, Ground Pounder just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up. No luck for Fisher with that takedown attempt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Pounder avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Fisher shoots and misses and Pounder counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brett Fisher. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Fisher can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Pounder controls the pace. Fisher controls Pounder momentarily but Pounder frees himself. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Pounder has gone for a leg lock! Fisher slips out almost immediately though and dives into Pounder's guard. Pounder throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Pounder looking for subs off his back but Fisher has passed one foot through into half guard.
Pounder wants to control but Fisher is keeping busy and won't allow it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ground Pounder showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's time! Back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!
Fisher doesn't succeed with the takedown and Pounder counters with a nice double leg into side control. Fisher won't be happy with that. Pounder has an Americana. Fisher didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Pounder is delighted and gyrates infront of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Pounder hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:56 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Ground Pounder!
