PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Yukihisa Kitajima (ranked 7056 p4p, 243 weight class) and Holly Stackhouse (ranked 5445 p4p, 203 weight class). Stackhouse has chosen Tool - Jambi as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Holly Stackhouse is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Yukihisa Kitajima!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Holly Stackhouse!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Alexandre Firmino and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kitajima looking to score a takedown here. Stackhouse is defending well but Kitajima drives through and ends up in Stackhouse's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kitajima drops back, looking for a kneebar! Stackhouse looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Stackhouse looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Stackhouse!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kitajima is trying to improve his position.
Kitajima tries to control but Stackhouse manages to take his back.

Kitajima just trying to survive but Stackhouse is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
I really don't envy Kitajima right now.
Kitajima trying to get back to his feet but Stackhouse is in full control for now.
Kitajima rolls, trying to escape but Stackhouse keeps control of the position.

Kitajima is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.

Kitajima tries to escape but Stackhouse has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Stackhouse just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
Stackhouse really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kitajima. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Stackhouse is not going to allow Kitajima to sit and survive in this position.

It looks like Stackhouse might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Kitajima decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Kitajima is taking a breather. Stackhouse says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Holly Stackhouse has got the better of the ground game so far.
Stackhouse is refusing to be controlled, as Kitajima sits in half guard.

Stackhouse wants to control but Kitajima is having none of it.

Kitajima is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Stackhouse to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Stackhouse shrugs it off.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Kitajima avoids the attempt from Stackhouse to control.
Kitajima wants to control the pace but Stackhouse is squirming around nicely.
Stackhouse can't escape the position.
Stackhouse wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Kitajima.

Stackhouse is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

Kitajima swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Stackhouse is now in Kitajima's guard. A big mistake from Kitajima there, giving up the dominant position!
Stackhouse is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Kitajima will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Stackhouse sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Stackhouse is continuing to stall.
Kitajima trying to keep a closed guard but Stackhouse is proving a slippery customer.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Kitajima wants to control the position but Stackhouse says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

Kitajima is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yukihisa Kitajima dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Kitajima goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Yukihisa Kitajima seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kitajima throws a push kick but Stackhouse slaps the foot to one side.
Stackhouse with the counter takedown but Kitajima avoids it easily.
Kitajima tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Stackhouse counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Kitajima!
Kitajima is trying to escape the position but Stackhouse is controlling the position.

Kitajima is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Kitajima is looking for a sweep. Stackhouse is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Kitajima tries to kick Stackhouse off in order to stand up. Stackhouse Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Kitajima looks to move to half guard but instead Stackhouse has passed into mount! Damn!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Kitajima wants to control but Stackhouse is having none of it.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Kitajima really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Holly Stackhouse comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Stackhouse has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
