PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Philip Farmery (ranked 1914 p4p, 243 weight class) and Alexander Hyperion (ranked 4198 p4p, 462 weight class). Farmery comes to the cage accompanied by Dayseeker-Vultures. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Philip Farmery!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Alexander Hyperion!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, David Schapiro and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A decent looking body kick lands there for Farmery.

Hyperion gets caught flat footed, as Farmery shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Farmery throws a big elbow that misses.
Hyperion avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Farmery trying to control but Hyperion is working from the bottom.

Farmery postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Hyperion is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Farmery, into his guard.

Farmery wants to sweep here but Hyperion controlling him for the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Farmery is on top in guard.

Farmery looking to sit in guard and control but Hyperion gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Farmery working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Hyperion has passed into half guard!

Hyperion decides to return to a standing position.
Hyperion stuns Farmery with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Farmery throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Hyperion was covering up waiting for the punch and Farmery finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Farmery drops back, looking for a kneebar! Hyperion looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Hyperion looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Hyperion!

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Farmery is looking for a sweep.
Farmery gets back to half guard.
Hyperion seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Farmery moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Farmery tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Hyperion slips nicely into half guard, despite the strikes coming from Farmery.
Hyperion wants to stand up but Farmery is controlling the position.

Hyperion is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Hyperion throwing shots but Farmery is blocking nicely.
Farmery is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Hyperion's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Hyperion's back!

Farmery has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Hyperion has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Farmery sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Farmery fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Hyperion sprawls well initially but Farmery persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Farmery is trying to work for a kimura but Hyperion is defending well.

Farmery thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Philip Farmery overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Farmery throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Hyperion works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Farmery postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Farmery throws a big right hand that misses.
Farmery wants to control from the top but Hyperion keeps moving.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Farmery goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Hyperion rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Farmery's guard! Nice work there by Hyperion!

Farmery lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Hyperion really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Farmery. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Farmery is looking to work some ground and pound but Hyperion has wrist control.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Hyperion works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Farmery looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Farmery avoids the head kick by Hyperion.

Farmery trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Farmery wants to pass the guard but Hyperion is keeping the position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hyperion can do anything to dispel that myth.

Farmery has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Farmery thows a huge punch but Hyperion dodges it nicely.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Farmery feints and as Hyperion raises his hands in defense, Farmery changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Farmery got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hyperion has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Farmery has managed to get both his arms back between Hyperion's legs - danger averted.

Farmery is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Hyperion!
Philip Farmery is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Farmery lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Farmery, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
