Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cole Elliot! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Steve McGinness! The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, John Kavanagh and Franklyn Lucas.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McGinness keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Nice takedown defense from McGinness. No joy for Elliot on that attempt. Elliot fails with a takedown attempt from distance. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cole Elliot. That's going to take a lot out of him. McGinness keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. McGinness tries a head kick but it misses.
Cole Elliot seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's one minute gone in the round. McGinness lands with a nice combination. Elliot backs away looking to recover. McGinness throws a head kick that misses. The fight stays on the outside here - Elliot looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Elliot shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has McGinness pinned against the cage. McGinness gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. McGinness tries to bum rush Elliot with a series of wild strikes but Elliot uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. McGinness stuffs the takedown attempt from Elliot. Elliot gets slowly back to his feet. A head kick by Elliot misses and McGinness counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena. McGinness throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Elliot fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. McGinness sprawls well initially but Elliot persists and gets the takedown into half guard. McGinness is defending against the submission attempts here by Elliot.
McGinness keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Elliot is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for McGinness! McGinness is trying to stand. Elliot swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!
