PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Grin Ribber (ranked 435 p4p, 57 weight class) and Robledo Puch (ranked 519 p4p, 66 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Ribber might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Ay Ay Ay. Puch comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Breathe kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 31 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Grin Ribber!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 46 - 18 - 2, fighting out of Tokyo, Robledo Puch!
The judges for this bout are , Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ribber throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Ribber looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Puch slips under a jab from Ribber.
Puch misses with a series of wild punches.
Ribber lands a leg kick that knocks Puch off balance momentarily.
Puch throws an overhand right that lands on Ribber's shoulder, as Ribber tries to avoid the shot.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Puch.
Ribber misses the shot to the body.
Ribber displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Puch throws out the jab.
Ribber getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ribber buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Puch on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

A head kick misses from Ribber.
And Puch tries to counter it with a takedown but Ribber pushes his down on his head and steps out.
A punch lands to the side of Ribber 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Ribber does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Puch moves out of range as Ribber throws a body kick.

Ribber tries to work over Puch's front leg with a kick but Puch checks it.

and Puch counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Ribber working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Puch doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Puch manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Puch stands up over Ribber, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Puch makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Puch connects with a couple of short punches.
Puch postures up and lands a big shot to Ribber's brow.
Puch postures up in Ribber's guard and throws a big left but Ribber blocks it.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Puch sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Ribber's guard.

Puch is working Ribber over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Ribber closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

Puch is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Ribber tries to land a front kick but Puch steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Puch stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Ribber.

Grin Ribber seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

It looked like Ribber wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Puch drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Ribber swings for the body but Puch moves out of range.
Ribber cracks Puch with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Ribber gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Puch throws a hook but Ribber avoids it easily.

Puch uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Ribber.
Ribber uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Puch.

Puch lands a nice shot to the body.
Ribber with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

and Puch counters with a shoot takedown. Ribber fights it but they end up in guard.

Ribber is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Puch defends well.

Ribber has his foot on Puch's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Puch works his way back into a safe position though.

Puch is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Puch wants to control from the top but Ribber keeps moving.
Ribber wants to sweep here but Puch controlling him for the moment.
Puch passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Puch lands a decent elbow from side control.
Puch wants to control but Ribber is keeping him busy.

Puch is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Ribber defends it well.

Robledo Puch showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Ribber's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Ribber throws an overhand right that lands on Puch's shoulder, as Puch tries to avoid the shot.
A telegraphed right hand from Puch misses the target.
Puch avoids the head kick by Ribber.

Puch feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Puch has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Ribber escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Puch gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Puch won't allow Ribber to sweep him here.

Ribber had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Puch defends it easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Puch accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Puch won't allow Ribber to sweep him here.
Ribber has momentary wrist control but Puch slips an elbow through the middle.
Puch postures up and lands a big shot to Ribber's brow.

Robledo Puch is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Puch is adopting a defensive guard.
Puch's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Ribber with a flurry of punches that miss.
Ribber working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Puch might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Ribber haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Ribber fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Puch to the ground. Ribber is now in Puch's guard.
Puch looking to hit a scissor sweep but Ribber is one step ahead there.
Ribber stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Puch swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Puch pulls Ribber in to control the position.
Ribber pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Puch is keeping the position for now.
Puch has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Puch looking for a sweep. Not yet Puch, not yet.
Puch controlling the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ribber working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Ribber has gone for a leg lock! Puch slips out almost immediately though and dives into Ribber's guard.


Ribber is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Puch is aware though and is defending well.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Robledo Puch.
I've got Puch winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
