Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Clay Mercer (ranked 2529 p4p, 342 weight class) and Emet Golem (ranked 5047 p4p, 572 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
29 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Clay Mercer! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Emet Golem! The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Paul Aken and Saam Ante.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Golem connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Mercer connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Golem momentarily.
Mercer drops his hands momentarily and Golem takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Golem lands a jab. Golem moves into range and connects with a jab. Golem rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Mercer moves out of range and avoids them all easily. It looked like Mercer was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Golem. Golem bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Mercer's head. Golem lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Donk. Golem catches Mercer right on the button with a cross. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Mercer walks into a straight right hand from Golem. Mercer slips a jab from Golem. Mercer tries to counter with a takedown but Golem is quick to defend against it. Golem is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Mercer had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté. Mercer blocks a jab. Golem looks to throw the jab but Mercer is out of range. Mercer swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. Golem misses the shot to the body. As Golem tries to get set, Mercer tries to push him back and clinch up but Golem manages to avoid the attempt. A left lands for Golem.
It looks like Clay Mercer has been cut.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mercer keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Mercer half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. Golem throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Mercer. Golem might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable. Golem throws a right and a left that Mercer avoids nicely. It looked like Mercer wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit. Golem works over Mercer's head and body with a nice combination. Golem misses with a double jab
and Mercer moves into the clinch. Mercer misses with the head strike.
Mercer tries to throw a body punch but Golem avoids it by throwing Mercer back against the cage. Mercer swings away with an uppercut that misses.

I was talking to Mercer's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Mercer lands a hook that snaps the head of Golem backwards. Golem misses with a punch on the inside.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Mercer. Mercer swings wildly with an uppercut but Golem uses good head movement to avoid it. Golem fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Mercer works on Golem's body with a couple of short punches. A head punch on the inside from Golem fails to land.

This has been an exciting period of action! The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows. Golem makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut. Mercer lands with a good tight uppercut to the head. An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Golem. Mercer lands with a light punch inside. Golem swings wildly with an uppercut but Mercer uses good head movement to avoid it. Mercer tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Golem. With the fighters clinched against the cage, Golem creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Mercer misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Mercer stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Golem working some nice short punches in the clinch. Mercer has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Golem is trying to keep an underhook but Mercer manages to get the takedown into half guard. Mercer has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Mercer can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Golem is looking to escape. Mercer moves to his opponent's back but Golem bucks him off and ends up in guard. A bit of a disaster there for Mercer.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Mercer has momentary wrist control but Golem slips an elbow through the middle. My spies in Rabid Dog inform me that Golem has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Mercer avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Golem scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Golem trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Mercer is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Mercer is rocked! Golem arches his back and unloads with a massive left and a right! Mercer's eyes roll back into his head, he's out cold! The ref dives in to stop the fight - wow, they were hard shots!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Emet Golem! During a confident post fight interview, Emet Golem thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
