Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mahalo Bittencourt (ranked 2567 p4p, 263 weight class) and Mike Charles (ranked 2043 p4p, 226 weight class). 8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Mike Charles! The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Reed Andrews and Bruno Lombardi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bittencourt throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Charles. Mahalo Bittencourt seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Nice defenses there by Charles. Charles takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Charles avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Charles with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Bittencourt to score with a decent uppercut. Bittencourt misses with a looping right. Charles is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch. Charles slips under a jab from Bittencourt. We've been told by Bittencourt's head coaches at Ryōzanpaku Dojo that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Charles throws a predictable looking body shot
and Bittencourt counters with a lovely straight right hand! We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bittencourt misses with an uppercut. Charles saw that one coming. Charles walks into a stiff left hand from Bittencourt. Bittencourt throws a good cross that connects.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bittencourt throws a right and a left that both miss. Bittencourt throws an overhand right that lands on Charles's shoulder, as Charles tries to avoid the shot. Charles steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Bittencourt. Nice uppercut there from Bittencourt. Bittencourt swinging wildly here.
Bittencourt sets himself, and Charles steps forward looking for the clinch! Bittencourt avoids it this time. Bittencourt throws a big shot that misses. Charles wants to counter with a clinch but Bittencourt pushes him away. Bittencourt misses with a series of wild punches.
Charles ducks under a wild hook from Bittencourt. Bittencourt is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all. Charles has managed to clinch.

Charles just leaning against Bittencourt, taking a breather. Charles jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Bittencourt walks away with a smile on his face. Charles gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Bittencourt ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Bittencourt throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Charles holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Bittencourt misses with a short punch on the inside. Charles blocking some punches.
Bittencourt working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely. Bittencourt throws a punch but it's blocked by Charles. Charles tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Bittencourt just stands there and leans against the cage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bittencourt goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Bittencourt tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Bittencourt blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. A head punch blocked on the inside by Charles. Bittencourt struggles to land a body shot inside as Charles controls his hands.
Charles is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace. Charles tries to pull guard but Bittencourt holds him up against the cage and eventually Charles drops back down to his feet.
Mahalo Bittencourt has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mike Charles. Charles prevents a body shot from Bittencourt. Charles blocks a body shot from Bittencourt. Charles tries to pull guard but Bittencourt holds him up against the cage and eventually Charles drops back down to his feet.

Charles takes a shot to the head. Charles is trying to pull guard but Bittencourt turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mahalo Bittencourt dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Bittencourt looks to score with a jab to the body but Charles is just out of range. A telegraphed right hand from Bittencourt misses the target. Charles wants to counter the offense by Bittencourt and move into the clinch position. Bittencourt throws a hook but Charles avoids it easily. Charles tries to counter with a clinch but Bittencourt shakes him off and moves away. Mahalo Bittencourt is winning the standup battle so far. Charles lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Bittencourt at a distance.
Bittencourt will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Charles moves into full mount! Bittencourt won't be happy about that! Charles controlling from the full mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Charles looking to control but Bittencourt is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Charles misses with a head shot. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Bittencourt regains half guard. Charles in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Bittencourt tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Charles!
