Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Big John! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Assassin Wren! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Bart Greer and Santiago Holmes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wren dives in and grabs John's left leg, looking for a takedown. John pushes down on Wren's head and hops out. Wren rushes John and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. John wants to break the clinch but can't.
Wren breaks from the clinch.
Wren takes the fight into the clinch. Wren's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Wren will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Wren dives in and scores a takedown into John's guard. John looking for a sweep. Not yet John, not yet. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Wren is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Wren won't allow John to get back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. John trying to keep a closed guard but Wren is proving a slippery customer.
Wren controls from within his opponent's guard. John is trying to control the position but Wren postures up. John working a defensive guard but Wren passes into half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Wren decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet. Wren shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches John napping and manages to drive through into side control!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wren is staying tight to John's torso, preventing him from escaping. Wren is trying to get an arm triangle but John is defending well. John is looking to regain half guard here but Wren keeps moving and retains side control. Wren lands a decent elbow from side control. Wren working the ground and pound. Wren controls the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Wren works to advance to full mount. John defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs. John keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Wren takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. John is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Wren jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but John manages to avoid the submission attempt.
That's four minutes gone in the round. John is trying to improve his position. John is breathing heavily. Wren tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Wren stands up. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Assassin Wren dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Wren closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. John quickly recovers to half guard. John is in trouble now - Wren has advanced to mount! Wren controlling from mount. Wren trying to control but he's not successful this time. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Wren with good strikes from the mount here! Wren looking to control and managing it successfully.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wren wants to control the pace but John is squirming around nicely. Wren quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Wren but it's paid off an John is forced to tap! Nice work by Wren.
