PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tuan Campbell (ranked 9889 p4p, 0 weight class) and Soda Can (ranked 6338 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Tuan Campbell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Soda Can!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Skip Squint and Topper Green.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Campbell stuffs the takedown attempt from Can. Can gets slowly back to his feet.
Can is looking to clinch but Campbell is avoiding it.
Campbell pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Can changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Campbell looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Campbell stops Can from passing to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Can goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Campbell rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Can's guard! Nice work there by Campbell!

Can looking for subs off his back but Campbell has passed one foot through into half guard.

Campbell gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Campbell leaves Can with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Soda Can seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Can takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Can shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Campbell sprawls well. Campbell wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Can gets slowly back to his feet.
Tuan Campbell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Soda Can.
Can avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Nice sprawl there from Campbell as Can shoots in.
Can throws a lazy right hand but Campbell sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Campbell thinks about countering with a head kick.

Campbell comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Campbell misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Can throws a wild body kick that Campbell sees coming a mile off.
Campbell lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Can takes a head kick and keeps coming.
A head kick by Can misses
and Campbell counters with a stiff right hand.
Campbell really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

and Can holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Can blocks an elbow strike.

Campbell breaks from the clinch.
A head kick from Campbell lands but Can takes it in his stride.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Can shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Can seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Campbell does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Can is thwarting Campbell's attempts to control the position.
Can stalling.
Campbell is not content to let Can control the position.
Campbell is looking for a sweep. Can is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Can in particular looking to stall.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Campbell looks like he's trying to stand up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Can closes the distance and clinches up with Campbell, looking for a takedown. Can pushes Campbell against the cage but Campbell circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Campbell is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Can has managed to clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Can tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Campbell avoids it.
Campbell is trying to break the clinch but Can has him pressed against the cage.
Campbell misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Can.
Campbell can't break the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Tuan Campbell will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!



Can rushes Campbell and presses him up against the cage.
A shot in the inside from Can.
Can blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Campbell breaks from the clinch.
Can tries to clinch but Campbell moves away
and Campbell counters with a big head kick but Can shrugs it off.
Campbell misses with a head kick.
Can tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Campbell manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Campbell tries to sprawl but Can drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Campbell has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Can is on him like a limpet, forcing Campbell back against the cage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Campbell tries to stall but Can uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Can manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Campbell has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Can is pulling down on Campbell's head. It's preventing any offense from Campbell, at least for the moment.
Can wants to stand up but Campbell is controlling him.

Can is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Can looking for a sweep. Not yet Can, not yet.
Campbell working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

Campbell preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Can in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Can tries to free his leg and advance position but Campbell is retaining full guard.
Soda Can has got the better of the ground game so far.
Can postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Campbell tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Can tries to free his leg and advance position but Campbell is retaining full guard.
Can landing some decent shots from guard.
Campbell keeping moving, preventing Can from controlling successfully.

Can wants to stand but Campbell has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Can trying to control the position from guard on top but Campbell is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Campbell looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Can!

Can sneaks out the side door and pushes Campbell away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Can throws a leg kick that is checked
and Campbell counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Campbell plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!

Can throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Campbell.
Soda Can is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Can is looking to clinch.

Can rushes Campbell and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Can lands a takedown into guard.
Can content to stall in guard here.
Campbell is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Can is looking to advance position but Campbell has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Soda Can will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Campbell lands with a good body shot.

Can closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Campbell quickly recovers to half guard.
Can trying to control from half guard but Campbell is working away.

Can decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
A head kick misses from Campbell.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Can is looking to clinch but Campbell is avoiding it.
Can shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Campbell pinned against the cage. Campbell gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Can leaves Campbell with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Can wants to clinch but Campbell slips to the side
and Campbell counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Can is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Can misses with a jab to the body
and Campbell counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Campbell avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Can throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Campbell's waist but Campbell gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Can off to one side.
Can looks to land a combination but Campbell avoids it well.
Can takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Can closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Campbell is looking to control Can's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Campbell avoid being mounted?

Can is working for a submission of some sort.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Can trying to control from Campbell's half guard. Campbell has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Can wants to control from the top but Campbell keeps moving.
Campbell is trying to hold Can in close to prevent damage but Can has managed to pass into half guard.
Campbell wants to control but Can is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Can is trying to control the action in half guard but Campbell is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Campbell is trying to get back to full guard.
Can trying to pass the guard but Campbell defending well.
Can controlling the action here.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Campbell flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Can shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Campbell sprawls well. Campbell wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Can gets slowly back to his feet.
Tuan Campbell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Soda Can.
Campbell lands a nice shot to the body.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Can fails with the takedown
and Campbell counters with a head kick. That will keep Can thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Campbell lands a slapping body shot.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Soda Can.
I think Can has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
