Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jamie Weiss (ranked 6472 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Dugan (ranked 6508 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jamie Weiss!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, James Dugan!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Roger Salmon and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dugan has a takedown stuffed.

Dugan clinches with his opponent.

Weiss manages to break the clinch.
Dugan tries to score a power double leg takedown but Weiss sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Dugan somewhat.
Weiss tries a head kick but it misses.
Dugan is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
Dugan wants to clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Weiss shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Dugan defends it nicely.
Dugan was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.

Dugan fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Weiss, pushing him back against the cage.

Weiss shoots in but Dugan avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Weiss lands a nice hook to Dugan's body. Dugan takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Dugan bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Dugan steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Weiss.

Dugan throws out a leg kick but Weiss moves out of range and Dugan only half commits.
Weiss half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

and Weiss counters with a stiff right hand.
Dugan walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Dugan shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Weiss as he jumps to the side.
Dugan pulls out of a head kick attempt.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Dugan avoids the head kick by Weiss.
Nice takedown defense from Weiss. No joy for Dugan on that attempt.
Weiss doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Dugan counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Dugan.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

Dugan manages to break the clinch.
Dugan throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Weiss's waist but Weiss gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Dugan off to one side.
Dugan throws a right hand that Weiss ducks under and follows up with a left that Weiss also avoids with ease.
Weiss darts in looking for a takedown but Dugan gets double underhooks and turns Weiss into the cage.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Weiss misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Dugan.

Weiss manages to break the clinch.

Dugan avoids the head kick by Weiss.
Weiss misses with a few strikes there.
Dugan goes for a double leg but Weiss avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Weiss continues to drive forward.
Dugan is trying hard to land a takedown here. Weiss sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Weiss stuffs the takedown attempt from Dugan. Dugan gets slowly back to his feet.
Weiss shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Dugan but Dugan pushes him off and we're back to square one.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Dugan is defended easily by Weiss.
It looked like Weiss was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Weiss closes the distance and clinches.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Dugan shoots in for a takedown but Weiss shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Weiss has taken the fight to the clinch.
Dugan leaning against his opponent.
Dugan has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Weiss is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Weiss is pushing Dugan up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Weiss stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Dugan raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Dugan shoots in looking for a takedown. Weiss tries to sprawl out of it but Dugan keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Weiss manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Dugan looks for the body kick but Weiss saw that one coming.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Dugan blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Dugan is trying to pull guard but Weiss turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Come on Dugan - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

Weiss is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Dugan can do to turn this around?

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Dugan is in close to Weiss's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Dugan lands a couple of elbows.
Dugan is looking to work some ground and pound but Weiss has wrist control.
Dugan works a leg free and moves into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Weiss has his hands clasped together around Dugan's back. He's all about the action.
Weiss keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Weiss is looking to improve his position.
Weiss trying to control from the bottom.
Dugan wants to take a breather but Weiss is having none of it.
Weiss regains full guard. Nicely done.
Dugan slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Weiss has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Dugan can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Dugan misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Dugan dives in and grabs Weiss's left leg, looking for a takedown. Weiss pushes down on Dugan's head and hops out.

Weiss wants to clinch up but Dugan keeps it at a distance.
Dugan changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Weiss tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Dugan defends well and Weiss ends up having to push Dugan into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Dugan pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Weiss throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
James Dugan has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jamie Weiss is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Weiss.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jamie Weiss.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Weiss, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
