PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between James Goldfish (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Miguel Barricho (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that James Goldfish has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily James Goldfish seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, James Goldfish!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Miguel Barricho!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Goldfish is looking to clinch.
Barricho avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Goldfish changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Barricho tries to avoid it but Goldfish manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Barricho to the ground. Barricho escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Goldfish misses with the combination.
Goldfish shoots in looking for a takedown. Barricho tries to sprawl out of it but Goldfish keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Barricho manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Goldfish could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Barricho gets a clinch.

Barricho slips a straight right by Goldfish.
Barricho gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Goldfish decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Barricho's guard.

Barricho has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Goldfish can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Goldfish thows a big elbow that misses.
Barricho wants to improve his position but instead Goldfish has moved into half guard.
Goldfish looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Barricho trying to control but Goldfish postures up.
Barricho might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Goldfish kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Barricho is looking to improve his position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Barricho tries to stand but Goldfish is controlling from the bottom.

Goldfish wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Barricho tries to bum rush Goldfish with a series of wild strikes but Goldfish uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Goldfish looks to clinch

and Barricho counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Goldfish manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Barricho manages to get himself to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Goldfish not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Goldfish trying to control the position from guard on top but Barricho is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Goldfish passes Barricho's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Goldfish is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Barricho!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Goldfish has control of Barricho's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Barricho regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Barricho really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Goldfish. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Barricho is looking to improve his position but Goldfish isn't that keen on the idea.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that James Goldfish will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Barricho changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Goldfish looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Barricho is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Goldfish sees it coming and defends easily.
Goldfish is trying to maintain the position but Barricho is very close to passing his half guard.

Goldfish has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Barricho can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Barricho stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Goldfish swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Goldfish closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Barricho working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Goldfish doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Goldfish manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Barricho has his foot on Goldfish's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Goldfish works his way back into a safe position though.

Miguel Barricho showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Goldfish with a lazy takedown attempt

and Barricho counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Goldfish's guard now.

Barricho is looking to work some ground and pound but Goldfish has wrist control.

Barricho looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Goldfish moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Barricho lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Barricho pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Miguel Barricho comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Barricho has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
