Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Pedro Pete! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ben Carsly! The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Ian Loll and Alec Ball.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A telegraphed right hand from Carsly misses the target. A jab from Carsly misses. Pete moves away from the strike by Carsly. Pete quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect. Pete is looking to clinch. Carsly connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt. Carsly scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Carsly looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Carsly drops an elbow to the side of Pete's head. Pete is looking to improve his position.
Carsly content to control rather than advance. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Carsly not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
That's one minute gone in the round. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Pete is staying active underneath Carsly, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Carsly throwing shots but Pete is blocking nicely. Carsly looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Carsly is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! Carsly controlling from mount. Pete tries to get back to half guard but can't. Carsly raining down shots from the mount! Carsly has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Pete is looking to improve his position but Carsly isn't that keen on the idea. Pete is trying to stand up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Carsly avoids the attempt from Pete to control. Carsly working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Pete is rocked! A big strike lands for Carsly! That's really hurt Pete and he's turned his back - Carsly keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Carsly jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:34 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ben Carsly!
