Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Patrick Cleary (ranked 4485 p4p, 535 weight class) and Blue Cup (ranked 2643 p4p, 372 weight class). Blue Cup has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Patrick Cleary's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 2, fighting out of New York, Patrick Cleary!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Blue Cup!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Dean Styles and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cup throws a series of punches but Cleary moves out of range.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Cup misses with a looping right.
Cup misses the shot to the body.
Cup's jab looks to have found its range, popping Cleary under the eye.
Cup throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.

Cleary shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Cleary was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Cleary swings around for an armbar but Cup sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Cleary's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Cup slips nicely into half guard.
Cleary gets back to full guard.
Cup working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Cleary keeping moving, preventing Cup from controlling successfully.

Cleary tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Cleary bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Cup's guard.

Cleary wants to control from the top but Cup keeps moving.

Cleary's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Cup told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Cup trying to keep a closed guard but Cleary is proving a slippery customer.

Cleary stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Cleary wants it to stay on the feet.
The fight stays on the outside here - Cleary looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Cup looks to score with a jab to the body but Cleary is just out of range.
Cleary thuds his right hand into Cup's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Cleary is looking to take a break and control but Cup is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Cleary is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Cup doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Cleary.

Cleary is looking for submissions but instead, Cup has regained full guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Cleary avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Cleary might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Cleary tries to free his leg and advance position but Cup is retaining full guard.

A close round but Blue Cup will probably get the nod.

Cleary goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Cup has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Cleary but great work by Cup.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cup is keen to just control but Cleary is a slippery customer.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Cleary is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Cleary drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Cup manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Cleary has Cup in his guard.

Cleary keeping moving, preventing Cup from controlling successfully.
Cup pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Cleary is keeping the position for now.
Cup trying to control the position from guard on top but Cleary is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Cup is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Cleary is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Cleary has escaped and now he's on top!

That was a close second round but I would say that Patrick Cleary will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Cup ducks under a wild hook from Cleary.
Cup listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Cup throws a head kick but Cleary moves out of range.
Cleary feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Cups jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Blue Cup seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Cleary shoots in and bounces Cup off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Cleary looking to sit in guard and control but Cup gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Cleary looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Cup passes into side control.

Cup is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Cleary knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Cup drops back looking for a leg! Cleary is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Cleary manages to kick Cup off! Cup jumps back into Cleary's guard.
Cleary controls Cup momentarily but Cup frees himself.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Cleary manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Cup manages to get himself to full guard.

Cleary wants to control from the top but Cup keeps moving.

Cleary drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Cup manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Cleary has Cup in his guard.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Cleary wants to hit a switch here but Cup passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Cleary there!

And that's the end of the fight!
Blue Cup comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Cup has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
