Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Mathew Fields! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Corey Red! The judges for this bout are William Gold, Steven Brown and James Atkins.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Red shoots and misses and Fields counters with a three punch combo that has Red backing up. Red nods at Fields to acknowledge the strikes. Red tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Fields counters with a takedown into side control. Red is trying to control Fields's posture but Fields avoids it. Red looking for a sweep but Fields has passed into full mount! Oh no! Fields avoids the attempt from Red to control. Fields swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Red is now in Fields's guard. A big mistake from Fields there, giving up the dominant position!
That's one minute gone in the round. Red postures up in Fields's guard and throws a big left but Fields blocks it. Fields wants to get back to his feet but Red is in a dominant position and won't allow it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Red scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Fields is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Fields really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Red has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Fields is working an open guard so Red takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Red tries to close the distance and clinch up but Fields swats him away and circles back towards the center. Fields tries to counter with a takedown but Red is quick to defend against it. Red throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Fields counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Fields. Red is trying to control the position but Fields postures up. Fields controlling from the top position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Red has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Fields has passed into side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Red is being controlled here. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. The fight stays on the outside here - Red looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Red pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Fields back to the cage. Red follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver. Red dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Red misses with a combination
so Fields counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Red looks winded! The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Fields lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mathew Fields dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
The fight moves into the clinch position. Fields is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Red is defending well. Red has Fields pushed against the cage. Red tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Fields fails to pull the fight into his guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Fields turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Red is looking to regain half guard here but Fields keeps moving and retains side control. Red on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fields in side control, just content to control the action for now. Fields seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Red for as long as he can get away with. Red manages to work his way to half guard, despite Fields's best efforts.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Fields trying to control the pace. Fields continues to stall.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Red shoots in for a takedown but Fields shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Fields appears to be looking for a big counter. A head kick by Red misses and Fields counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Fields. Red is breathing heavily. Fields is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Fields has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
That's four minutes gone in the round. More hug and hope from Fields. Red is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Fields's corner is telling him to maintain position.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mathew Fields dominated that second round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!
Fields gets in close and instigates a clinch. Red is trying to break the clinch but Fields is controlling him. Fields's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Fields avoids the head kick by Red.
Fields half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. Fields stuffs the takedown attempt from Red. Red gets slowly back to his feet. Fields is looking to counter with head kicks. Red shoots in for a double leg but Fields sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Fields is looking to counter punch. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Red throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Fields counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Red tries to bum rush Fields with a series of wild strikes but Fields uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Red takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Fields scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
That's one minute gone in the round. Red being controlled for a moment. Red is looking to reverse the position. Fields will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Fields taking a breather here. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Fields lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Red down.
Fields is staying tight to Red's torso, preventing him from escaping.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Red tries to keep at a distance but Fields has taken the fight into the clinch. Fields stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Fields dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage. Fields keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Red's efforts to push away. Red can't break the clinch.
Fields wants a takedown but no success here.
Red jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Fields walks away with a smile on his face. Red gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Mathew Fields has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Corey Red. Red goes for a double leg but Fields avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Fields continues to drive forward. Fields changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Red gets tackled into the cage by Fields. Fields maintains the clinch. Fields taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Red wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Fields has him pressed against the cage. Fields's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Corey Red seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Fields tries a head kick but it misses.
Fields rushes Red and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Fields lands with a short head shot on the inside. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Fields's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Corey Red has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Mathew Fields is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Fields blocks a head kick by Red.
And that's the end of the fight! Mathew Fields showed his dominance in that final round. Well Fields has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
