Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Mick Mulvaney (ranked 4053 p4p, 199 weight class) and Benji Lootin (ranked 5648 p4p, 264 weight class). Mulvaney kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is The Rocky Road To Dublin. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Mick Mulvaney! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Benji Lootin! The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Michael Johnstone and Sandra Marshall.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mulvaney stalks Lootin and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Lootin's face. Lootin staggers backwards, shaken.
It looks like Benji Lootin has been cut. Lootin throws a big shot that misses. Mulvaney throws a leg kick that is checked and Lootin counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Mulvaney kicks Lootin off and gets back to his feet. This has been an exciting period of action! Mulvaney throws a sloppy head kick and Lootin moves out of range easily. Mulvaney slaps away a takedown attempt from Lootin, before circling back to the center of the mat. Lootin shoots in and bounces Mulvaney off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Mulvaney manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage. Lootin wants a takedown but no success here.
Mulvaney is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Lootin is trying to drag Mulvaney to the mat but Mulvaney just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Mick Mulvaney has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Benji Lootin. Lootin is pressed up against the cage. Mulvaney has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Lootin down to the mat. Lootin avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mulvaney lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook. Mulvaney staying out of range there. A jab from Lootin finds it's way through Mulvaney's defenses. Lootin walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. Lootin listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. Mulvaney swinging wildly here.

Mick Mulvaney is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Nice defenses there by Mulvaney. Mulvaney looks to clinch and Lootin counters with a straight right hand. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. A punch combination from Mulvaney misses. Mulvaney finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Mulvaney gets a clinch. Lootin drops down looking for an ankle pick but Mulvaney pulls his leg out and moves away.
Lootin lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lootin takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Lootin misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Mulvaney feints a jab promting Lootin to slip. Mulvaney then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Lootin slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Lootin is rocked! Lootin thuds his right hand into Mulvaney's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Lootin tests Mulvaney's chin there with a solid looking shot. Lootin misses with a lunging right hand
and Mulvaney counters with a nice uppercut. Lootin is still on wobbly legs! Can Mulvaney finish him? Mulvaney tries to clinch but Lootin moves out of range. Lootin seems to have recovered his senses. Lootin slips a jab and a cross from Mulvaney.
Lootin feints the counter takedown. Mulvaney definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Lootin misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Mulvaney lets his hands go wild with a nice combination. Left! Right! Uppercut! Spinning backfist! Lootin goes down and covers up as Mulvaney starts wailing on him! The ref watches the action closely before stepping in and putting a stop to the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mick Mulvaney! In his post fight interview, Mick Mulvaney started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
