Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Wm Chaney! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Marco Rusti! The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Colin Fray and Paul Gruel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Chaney defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Rusti. Chaney misses with a wild body shot. Rusti tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Rusti closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Chaney did well to prevent Rusti getting side control. Chaney pushes Rusti off but Rusti dives into side control.
Rusti landing with strikes to the head and body from side control. Rusti just content to control the position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Rusti wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Chaney, who protects the arm well. Rusti tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rusti advances to mount. Rusti fails to move to back control. Poor strikes thrown by Rusti there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Rusti postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Chaney looks a forlorn figure.
Chaney can't escape the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rusti landing shots from mount. Rusti sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Rusti thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Chaney really is a fat lump. Rusti landing strikes from the mount and Chaney is in trouble! Rusti is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Chaney has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Chaney! Rusti wants to stand but Chaney is controlling the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rusti looking to hit a scissor sweep but Chaney is one step ahead there. Rusti looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Chaney preventing the sweep. Rusti pulls Chaney in close to his closed guard and prevents Chaney from doing any damage or advancing position. Chaney wanted to stand there but Rusti had control of the position. Rusti is looking to cinch up a triangle. Chaney throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Rusti's body to avoid the submission. Rusti has instead reached around Chaney's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Rusti arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
