Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Steven Kennedy (ranked 2131 p4p, 57 weight class) and Evgeni Lomachenko (ranked 3143 p4p, 71 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Steven Kennedy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Evgeni Lomachenko!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A nice leg kick lands there from Kennedy.
Kennedy lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.


It looks like Evgeni Lomachenko has been cut.
Kennedy misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Kennedy cracks Lomachenko with a right hand to the side of the head.
Evgeni Lomachenko seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lomachenko takes one on the chin but seems OK.

Lomachenko bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Lomachenko in side control lands a decent elbow.
Lomachenko grinds an elbow into Kennedy's temple.

Lomachenko connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Kennedy some visible discomfort.
Kennedy manages to work his way to half guard, despite Lomachenko's best efforts.
Lomachenko scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Lomachenko looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Kennedy with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Kennedy wants to get back to full guard.

Lomachenko looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Lomachenko prevents Kennedy from improving his position.

Lomachenko missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Kennedy is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Kennedy gets back to full guard.
Lomachenko postures up in Kennedy's guard and throws a big left but Kennedy blocks it.

Kennedy looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lomachenko working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Kennedy's head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Kennedy has his foot on Lomachenko's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Lomachenko works his way back into a safe position though.

Kennedy is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Lomachenko postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Kennedy had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Lomachenko defends it easily.

Kennedy looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Lomachenko with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Lomachenko chips away with some ground and pound.
Lomachenko with a nice head shot there.
Kennedy is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Lomachenko lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Lomachenko is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Kennedy has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Lomachenko is looking to defend but Kennedy has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Lomachenko! Kennedy pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Lomachenko taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Steven Kennedy!
A relieved looking Steven Kennedy thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
