Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between John Lawler (ranked 5666 p4p, 564 weight class) and Thomas Miocic (ranked 5643 p4p, 563 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, John Lawler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Thomas Miocic!
The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Sandra Marshall and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lawler is trying hard to land a takedown here. Miocic sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Miocic drives through and clinches with Lawler against the cage.
Lawler blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Lawler really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Miocic is looking to break free of the clinch but Lawler has double underhooks.
Miocic wants to get back to striking at distance but Lawler won't allow it.
Lawler is looking to take this one to the mat.
Miocic avoiding damage.
Miocic is trying to maintain a safe position but Lawler gets an underhook and turns Miocic into the cage.
Miocic is trying to force a seperation but Lawler has the dominant position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Miocic is fighting off a takedown attempt but Lawler is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Miocic to the mat. Miocic regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Miocic keeping moving, preventing Lawler from controlling successfully.

Miocic is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Lawler is aware though and is defending well.

Miocic controls Lawler momentarily but Lawler frees himself.
Lawler working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Lawler advances position into side control!

Lawler tries for a kimura but Miocic is defending well.
Miocic misses with an elbow from the bottom.

Miocic looking for a sweep but Lawler has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Lawler trying to control but Miocic is having none of it.

Lawler with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Lawler looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Miocic is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Lawler is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Miocic is surviving well by controlling Lawler's body position as best he can.

Miocic really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lawler. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Lawler moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Miocic has worked his arm free - good work by Miocic!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Lawler wants to lay and pray for a moment but Miocic keeps working.
Miocic is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Lawler is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Miocic has escaped the position, nice work there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Lawler dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


No luck with that takedown attempt from Lawler.
Lawler fails to land the takedown.

Lawler is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Miocic's half guard.
Lawler thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Miocic trying to control from the bottom.

Lawler looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Lawler is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Miocic is just riding it out for now. Lawler eventually gives up the hold.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lawler is trying to control the action in half guard but Miocic is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Miocic is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Lawler's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Lawler's back!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Lawler trying to control the position but Miocic manages to sink in the hooks.
Lawler rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Lawler holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Lawler works his way to full guard. Good work.
Lawler controls Miocic momentarily but Miocic frees himself.
Miocic tries to stand but Lawler is controlling from the bottom.
Miocic sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Lawler's guard.

Miocic wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Lawler uses the opportunity to regain full guard.
Miocic wanted to stand there but Lawler had control of the position.
Lawler has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Lawler is on top in guard.


That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Lawler wants to control from the top but Miocic keeps moving.

Miocic is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Lawler stays in close to Miocic's body and controls the position.
Our spies down at at Cozad The Island inform us that Miocic has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?
Miocic is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Lawler passes Miocic's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that John Lawler will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Lawler manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Miocic is looking for a sweep. Lawler is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Lawler trying to control the action but Miocic is working from the bottom.
Miocic wants to control but Lawler is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Miocic tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Lawler has advanced to mount. Uh oh.

Lawler is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Miocic is forced to tap! Great finish!
