Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Joseph Coschignano! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Stephan Letter! The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Roosa Järviläinen and Johanna Lukiainen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Coschignano closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Letter is trying to stand.
Coschignano wants to take a breather but Letter is having none of it. Coschignano is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard. Coschignano wants to control from the top but Letter keeps moving. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Coschignano tries to free his leg and advance position but Letter is retaining full guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Letter wants to get back to his feet but Coschignano is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Coschignano tries to free his leg and advance position but Letter is retaining full guard. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Letter is looking to stand up but Coschignano isn't so interested in that idea.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
That's one minute gone in the round. Letter looks to land a combination. Coschignano sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots. Coschignano tries to clinch but fails miserably and Letter counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Coschignano doesn't manage to clinch there - Letter circles away.
Coschignano takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Coschignano does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy. Letter lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. He's got hold of a leg but Letter swivels and escapes. Letter lands a lovely overhand right. Letter scores with a three punch combo!
Letter looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. This has been an exciting period of action! The fight stays on the outside here - Coschignano looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Letter swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made. Coschignano shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Letter is trying to stand back up but Coschignano is controlling him
Letter is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Letter connects with a body shot that sends Coschignano's belly button to the back. Letter connects with a good right hand that stumbles Coschignano. Coschignano circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
It looks like Joseph Coschignano has been cut. Coschignano takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Left hook, right uppercut from Letter. Coschignano takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Coschignano is rocked! Stephan Letter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Letter connects with a stiff jab that staggers Coschignano - oh and he follows up with a huge uppercut that knocks him out cold! Man, that was brutal!
