PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Matt Stonie (ranked 6341 p4p, 644 weight class) and David Dupuis (ranked 4996 p4p, 569 weight class). Dupuis is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Out For A Rip. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Matt Stonie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, David Dupuis!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Dillan Fox and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dupuis tries to bum rush Stonie with a series of wild strikes but Stonie uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Dupuis lands a slapping body shot.
Stonie shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Stonie avoids the body shot from Dupuis.
Stonie swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Stonie connects with a body shot that sends Dupuis's belly button to the back.
Stonie shoots in for a takedown but Dupuis shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Good shot there by Dupuis.
Stonie uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Dupuis.
Dupuis tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Stonie moves out of range as Dupuis throws a body kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dupuis fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Stonie attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
A nice side step and Dupuis releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
Dupuis tries a head kick but it misses.
Stonie went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Dupuis has closed the distance and engaged Stonie in a clinch.

Dupuis escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Dupuis displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Stonie.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Matt Stonie. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Dupuis misses with a jab, cross combination.
Stonie wants to clinch up but Dupuis keeps it at a distance.

Dupuis gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Stonie manages to break the clinch.
Dupuis throws a body punch but Stonie moves out of range.

Stonie shoots in and bounces Dupuis off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Stonie is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Stonie stops Dupuis from standing up.
Stonie is fighting to break Dupuis's control of his arms but Dupuis is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Dupuis is wriggling around but Stonie manages to pass to half guard.
Stonie keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Stonie definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Dupuis keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Dupuis really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Stonie. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Stonie is looking for a kimura here.
Dupuis on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Dupuis has a hand on Stonie's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Stonie takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
Stonie tries to control but Dupuis wriggling away.

Dupuis tries to hold on but Stonie pushes him away.
Dupuis is trying desperately to improve position.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Dupuis is trying to stand but he's just given Stonie his back.
We've been informed that Dupuis has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

David Dupuis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Stonie wants to clinch.
Dupuis is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Stonie rather than just go for the knockout.
Stonie takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Stonie closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Dupuis's guard.
Stonie won't allow Dupuis to get back to his feet.

Dupuis has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Stonie off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Nice uppercut lands for Dupuis. That snapped Stonie's head back.
No luck for Stonie with that takedown attempt.
David Dupuis is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Dupuis goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Stonie blocks a head kick by Dupuis.

and Dupuis counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

Dupuis will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

A left and a right from Dupuis both land. Nice combination.


Stonie is rocked!
Dupuis cracks Stonie with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Oh Stonie is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Dupuis lets loose with a powerful body kick. Stonie will feel that in the morning.
Dupuis lands a nice looking body shot.
Stonie seems to have got his legs back now.

Dupuis has managed to clinch.

Dupuis breaks the clinch.
Dupuis feints a jab and as Stonie dips his head, Dupuis unleashes a brutal head kick that catches Stonie right on the jaw! Timbeeer! Stonie falls backwards in slow motion, only propped up by the cage! Dupuis smiles a psychotic smile as he stares down his unconscious opponent. That is a scary man.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:49 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). David Dupuis!
