PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between John Carter (ranked 2441 p4p, 294 weight class) and The Reverend Jim Ignatowski (ranked 1604 p4p, 209 weight class). The Reverend Jim Ignatowski will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, John Carter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, The Reverend Jim Ignatowski!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Wesley Smith and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ignatowski blocks a low kick nicely.
Ignatowski doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Carter fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Ignatowski thows a left - swing and a miss!
Carter closes the distance and clinches up with Ignatowski, looking for a takedown. Carter pushes Ignatowski against the cage but Ignatowski circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Ignatowski is trying to counter with his kicks.
Carter shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Ignatowski defends it nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Carter. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Carter closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Ignatowski to the mat! Ignatowski manages to get full guard.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Carter connects with a nice short shot to Ignatowski's temple.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Carter throws a head kick that misses.
Ignatowski replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Carter blocks it well.
Ignatowski misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
John Carter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Ignatowski thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Carter if he has to take too many more of those.
Carter changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ignatowski tries to avoid it but Carter manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ignatowski to the ground. Ignatowski escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Carter does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Carter tries to score a power double leg takedown but Ignatowski sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Carter somewhat.
It seemed like Ignatowski was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

I would just about give that final round to The Reverend Jim Ignatowski.
