Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joao Sousa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, I Hate Work!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Stewart Dunkirk and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Work closes the distance and clinches.
Sousa lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Sousa misses with a hook from the clinch.
Work prevents a body shot from Sousa.

Sousa swings wildly with an uppercut but Work uses good head movement to avoid it.
A nice right hand lands inside from Sousa.
Work looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
A head punch on the inside from Sousa fails to land.
Work tries to break the clinch but Sousa is controlling the position.
Still in the clinch, Sousa scores with a nice short uppercut.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Work really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sousa. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Work slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Sousa controls Work momentarily but Work frees himself.
Work trying to control the position from guard on top but Sousa is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Sousa continues to stall.

Sousa is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Work trying to control the position from guard on top but Sousa is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Work told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Work wants to get up but he can't break Sousa's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Sousa has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Work can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Sousa is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Work is aware though and is defending well.

Work tries to stand but Sousa is controlling from the bottom.

Sousa gets through Work's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Sousa is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Work can do to turn this around?

Sousa pulls guard effortlessly.

Work looking to improve position, pressing down on Sousa's thigh with his hand. Sousa seems to be working to lock up a guilotine though... is Work paying attention? Apparently not! He's locked it up tight! Work's face has turned purple! Will he tap? Will he! YES! He's tapped! Sousa picked his opening and made it count! Great finish!
