PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Koulouraki Souvlaki (ranked 179 p4p, 15 weight class) and Riff McGee (ranked 184 p4p, 16 weight class). Souvlaki comes to the cage accompanied by Greek Anthem. Riff McGee looks lathargic as he enters the arena. Wake up son, you're about to have a fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Koulouraki Souvlaki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Riff McGee!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Colin Fotheringham and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McGee stuns Souvlaki with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
McGee misses with a hook
and Souvlaki counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
McGee misses with a right hand

and Souvlaki counters with a shoot takedown. McGee fights it but they end up in guard.
Souvlaki with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
McGee is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Souvlaki missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

McGee has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Souvlaki can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

McGee is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Souvlaki is aware though and is defending well.
McGee looks winded!
Souvlaki lands a couple of elbows.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Souvlaki's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Souvlaki trying to control the position from guard on top but McGee is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
McGee has Souvlaki pulled in close to control his posture.
Souvlaki cracks McGee with a solid left hand.

Souvlaki lands a couple of digs.
Souvlaki is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Souvlaki is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Souvlaki works over McGee with some ground and pound from guard.
McGee keeping moving, preventing Souvlaki from controlling successfully.
Souvlaki with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
McGee can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Souvlaki controls the pace.
McGee has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at GWad's Playpen. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.

McGee has his foot on Souvlaki's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Souvlaki works his way back into a safe position though.

We've been hearing that Souvlaki has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Souvlaki postures up in McGee's guard and throws a big left but McGee blocks it.

Souvlaki passes McGee's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Souvlaki takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Souvlaki lands strikes from half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Souvlaki working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Souvlaki landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Souvlaki has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Souvlaki lands a nice short elbow.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Souvlaki wants to control but McGee is keeping him busy.
McGee wants to get back to full guard.
Souvlaki working over McGee with some ground and pound. McGee looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Souvlaki seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

McGee is rocked!
Souvlaki frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Souvlaki content just to control the position here.
Souvlaki lands a big shot there that rocks McGee but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
McGee is still in real trouble! Can Souvlaki finish him?
Souvlaki connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Souvlaki softens up his opponent with a couple of shots there and then CRACK! One massive shot lands there and McGee is out cold! Souvlaki jumps to his feet and celebrates on the cage with the fans, who are, quite frankly, going absolutely mental!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Koulouraki Souvlaki!
